For every inch in height you must make ramp 18 inches in length. Build a sturdy frame of 2x4's and attach 3/4 inch plywood on top. It's kinda hard to tell you without more info but you can always go to the nearest lumber dept. and ask for advice. Good Luck.

I was trying to decide on which one is better and found this website. www.PortaWalk.com
A concrete ramp would be best for a fixed application, because there are few joints and fasteners to loosen and maintain (handrails only). The downside is that will probably cost the most to build.
If you want to save money on a fixed application, pick a wooden or PortaWalk solution, but either of these are a compromise, because they would likely require some periodic maintenance, and will not perform that well in areas with extreme weather variations.
Aluminum is only best if you need portability to move it from palce to place rather often.

Idiot is 64 but thinks he's about 18. Has recently been climbing 20ft ladders to cut down conifers (on neighbours' demand). We are also attempting to fit an new environmentally friendly wood burning stove. Keeping this short, and sparing you the boring details, he has done his back in but refuses to go to see a doctor. I have found a local osteopath but doubt he'll go. Even threats about possible wheelchair use seem not to deter him although pain is now starting to influence him. Advice please asap. Thanks.
Thanks for all advice to date. Sorry if any of you have misunderstood my motives. I only want my husband to survive with the best possible future. What I wanted is direct advice to him to TAKE MORE CARE! Osteo today was charming but not that full of absolutely positive suggestions other than "Sit on a chair with a straight back. and thank you for the fee."
At 64 he should know better than to attempt anything beyond his capability
That said there is no better ego deflater that realising you ARE getting older and can no longer do the same things you did when you were much younger
Now that said I also feel that you should not let age get you. I mean within reasonable parameters you should continue to do as much as you possibly can but maybe a little slower
I'm 55 next year and will continue to ride my Harley hopefully for many years to come and again hopefully well beyond 64. In a couple of years I will ride the Route 66 and not let age stand in my way for as long as possible
If this puts me in a bracket of "silly old duffer" then so be it
Encourage him a bit and help him where you can and you will both enjoy staying young. Don't get past it before your time and prolong it as long as you possible can
Once you are at the "Pearly Gates" you can't ask for a second shot. This is your only life and "zooooom" it's gone in a flash. No rehearsal on this one
Enjoy and good luck even with a little caution
I need to build one that is movable, not fixed. We have a 3.25" threshhold from the outside and another one in the house, so I need to build 2. My husband says he needs at least 4 or 5 feet to maneuver his manual wheelchair up the ramp.
i will tell you how to build you a wood ramp that will last for your husband . get a hold if your lions club out by you and as them to help you they will if they are like the one i ,m in we build ramp all the time for people that need them and home depot will help also. there to meaning club out there will help you out . just as k around. there alot of good people out there will help you out. and wouldn,t cost you a thing

DEFINING BEAUTY: Hosted by Lisa Kline - 'Defining Beauty ...
"The most beautiful rainbows often follow the most horrific storms. When people reach the moment of discovery that the beauty of life is in its path then they begin to live on higher ground. Often this realization occurs after adversity, of losing something and learning how to push on and challenging themselves to achieve the impossible. The culture places emphasis on beauty as an external force, but real beauty is worn and illuminated from within." - Peter Wilderotter, President & CEO of Christopher & Dana Reeve Foundation Organized in 1972 by Dr. Philip K. Wood, Ms. Wheelchair America recognizes the accomplishments of women who must rely on wheelchairs for mobility. Its primary mission is to provide an opportunity for these women to educate and advocate for the more than 52 million Americans living with disabilities. This unique beauty pageant is a competition based on advocacy, achievement, communication and presentation to select the most accomplished and articulate spokeswoman for persons with disabilities.
