My son is physically handicapped and confined to wheel chair. I want to purchase a vehicle, which has a provision to put the child along with the wheelchair, using a ramp. Rear entry is preferred to avoid traffic problems.Kindly advise.
I think you are missing something.
Most wheelchair vans are not rear entry, most are side entry. The major decision is between Full Sized Van (typically rear entry and typically with a lift) and Mini Van (typically side entry and typically ramp)
Have a look at the article below and you will see this issue discussed in the section "Minivan versus Full Sized Van".
If you anyway decide on Full Sized Van, the most commonly sold van is Ford E-250 as you will see discussed in the article.
Good luck!

What makes/models are available, what are the most adaptable lifts?
I don't know of any that would have the headroom. That's why they use vans, and still have to drop the floor even in them in most cases. Or add a hightop conversion.

is a smaller wheelchair able to fit in the trunk of a suv?
Of course the best way to find out is to check at a car dealer if you do not know of anyone who has a smaller van.

have disabled daughter, live in country, really need 4wheel drive, I am hoping a van isnt my only option, does anyone know of any other options? thanks for the help....
How about a 4WD van?
You can get Chevy Express (full-size) or Astro (mid-size) vans in 4WD, but it's mainly snow running, not off-roading.
On the other hand, just how disabled is your daughter? I've seen cars (Crown Vics) with a "wheelchair folder". Basically the driver gets close enough, and pushes himself to slide into driver's seat. Then he moves chair into position, and a wheelchair folder unfolds from the backseat position, folds the chair, and pulls it into the rear seat area. When he needs to get off, the folder pulls out the chair, and unfolds it so he can get out. Obviously, this would cost more than just a wheelchair ramp...
Hey, found one that fits on the car top!

My boyfriend is a high functioning Quadrapalegic (no use of legs, limited use of hands, but good arm strength and movement). We are thinking of purchasing a truck or SUV since he loves going to the dunes and mudding! Our current truck is a Lifted 92 REGULAR Cab Chevy, so it is definitely not handicap accessible.
We are not sure where to begin on this! What is the best way to get him in this vehicle (ie: a lift) A couple questions:
Do we need to get rid of the back seats of a full size pickup so that he can fit the entire wheel chair in it? if we remove the Driver seat, is it (and the back seats as well) easily put back in so I can drive it? or carry passengers at some point?
What set up is good for something like this?
What brand is good for lifts?
Any insight on this subject would be much appreciated!! Please help! If you have any ideas, any thing that might help that i didnt ask about PLEASE let me know.
Thanks in advance!
You should contact an adaptive/mobility equipment dealer in your area. They can point you towards vehicles that may already be adapted and for sale, or suggest to you vehicles that would be easy to adapt, along with approved equipment to do so to your new or current vehicle. You can find a Quality Approved member Dealer of the National Mobility Equipment Dealers Association through:
http://www.nmeda.org/directory/qap_membe rs.html
You may want to read through their "A Consumer's Guide to
Purchasing Adaptive Vehicles and Equipment" at http://www.nmeda.org/consumers/consumer_ guide.html
Be aware that many vehicle manufacturers have assistance programs to help reimburse the costs of adapting one of their new vehicles to be accessible to those with limited mobility. Links to manufacturers' rebate programs: http://www.nmeda.org/consumers/rebatepro grams.html

Considering night rules for wheelchairs on roads - State ...
JACKSON, Miss. -- A Jackson City Council committee has voted to require a red light, reflective tape, or a warning flag on wheelchairs operated after sunset on city streets.
Wheelchair users say they cannot get around on the sidewalks, because those that exist are often too cracked for wheels and don't have "curb cuts" to let wheelchairs cross at intersections.
"There are no fines, no money associated with it," Councilman Kenneth Stokes said Thursday in a meeting of the City Council Planning Committee. "It's just for safety."
The committee passed his idea 4-0, but not before getting an earful. The disabled community is worried about potential run-ins with police.
