What basic equipment in an average non-medical supply store is good at maintaining and repairing manual rigid-framed wheel chairs. ? Where can I easily find these that's not goign to cost me my arms (my legs can go, hahaha)?
Replacement parts will probably have to be ordered from the manufacturer. Routine maintainance should include lubrication of wheel bearings with oil or grease. Nuts, bolts, and screws should be kept tight. Beyond that, about the only thing you will need to keep an eye on is the condition of any padded or upholstered areas.
Good luck with your repairs.

You don't say where you are located, so it is difficult to find help for you. There are many sources available for help. The following link is for the Virginia, Maryland, and Washington DC area, but perhaps they would have information for other areas of the US as well -

Many colleges have programs on campus where students perform the repairs. Perhaps if you simply searched the Internet for "wheelchair repairs in ........" you may find a resource. Good luck.

I have a friend who broke his back and needs his wheelchair repaired, I'm pretty good at electrical and electronic repair and have worked on medical equipt. before. I understand motors and operation but am a little weak on controls but I am a quick study.
More info is needed. What type of control system does the chair use, a modern or older chair for example. The electronic circuitry is fairly straight forward, but without more information little can be done. If you can locate my email on this site, write me and I'll try to help. I have 36 years experience in electronic control systems.

I've heard there is an extended insurence for motorzed wheelchairs and scooters which is great because repairs to my wheelchair r bankrupting me.I think if the chair coast u over $ 2000.00 then they should have an insurence like on cars n trucks.
Anyone out there agree say yeah!!! ;0}
Look up maker on-line they should offer this ,If not Sears Has some programs, also check with some of other medical supply stores in you area and see if they know. My cousin in Oregon called and found someone who new where to go.
I am in Paris and my friend's wheelchair hub broke tonight. It cracked in two places where the spokes go. Having a hard time finding a repair shop, wheelchair store or rental place. Love Yahoo Answers so I thought I'd throw it out there.
It is a TI Sport wheelchair with Spinergy hubs and wheels. Have checked their company websites but no dealers in Paris that I could find. Thanks!
Best bet would be to go in a Chemist (pharmacie), easily recognisable with their glowing green cross, and ask them.
Second bet would be to go to the big chemist at Gare St Lazare (exit Cour de Rome, right across the street when you come out), I bought my crutches there and seem to remember them having wheelchairs.

Wheelchair Diffusion | For Wheelchair Users It Doesn't End With ...
Finally, some momentum on the Community Choice Act . I think that most people would agree that having the option of living at home or landing in an institution is a good thing.
Still, for wheelchair users there is more to living at home than receiving customary services outside of an institution. There is still the outstanding issue of the wheelchair and its routine repair and maintenance.
Imagine a scenario where funded (Medicare, Medicaid, insurance) wheelchairs are getting much tougher to get every year. Where lawmakers openly endorse and promote limiting access to wheelchairs and related services. Compound that with the fact that needed repairs and maintenance are also getting tighter and at times leaving wheelchair users stranded for months at a time. Well, this scenario presently exists and things may be getting even tougher down the road.
