Wheelchair Ramp Van

I have a 9 year old son with cerebral palsy and he's getting too big for my car. I'm in the process of buying a used van, but I'm going to need a ramp put in and I don't have the money to do it. A few people said the Lions Club, or Rotary Club. But, I've never had to ask for money from an organization. I'm just not sure where to start.

Another good one is the shriners,they sponser my daughter,5yo w/cerebral palsy.We haven't gotten a van yet,and I'm not sure if they will help.If you buy a new van,both Chevy and Ford have programs that will pay up to 500 and up to 1000$ of the retrofit.I looked for my favorite's links to some site's,but could not find them.Try searching handicap accessible grant.

My cousin had one put on there van for his wife and it cost them almost $ 4000.00 to buy it and have it installed.
If you are the person that is going to be using it, then you can get help from a program, I think it is through the disability and handicapped program.
They may pay most of it or all of it, depends on your income.

I've driven a mini-van for 8 years and I'm going insaneeeeeee.
My husband thinks the only option we have for our son's wheelchair is a wheelchair ramp for a mini-van and I dont think I can drive one for the rest of my life!! Please... any suggestions on this would be appreciated.. before this causes a divorce.. lol
BESIDES getting my disabled son from Point A to Point B, I have to get my daughter to school and back every day, drive the van to work, take co-workers and clients to lunch in it, and if we go out for dinner as a family, we take it as well. So yes, my son's disability is primary, but we also have a life. Who says you cant have a vehicle that's classy AND functional? It's not fair that we are limited by a vehicle too, as well every other aspect of our lives because of disability. Instead of complaining about it, I'm trying to DO something about it.
He can be easily transferred from chair to carseat now, he's only a child. But I want a vehicle that will last us awhile. I dont wanna have to buy another car in 6 years. I'm not looking to put a wheelchair lift on it. I have another vehicle with a lift for emergencies. My primary vehicle is for all uses, work, family, fun, travel.

It is getting more and more difficult to transfer my mother into the car when I take her to the Doctor. She is paralyzed on the left side and when I lift and transfer her into the car she can not see the car seat because of the stroke and it scares her then she starts to have a panic attack which makes it harder to transfer her into the car. I must have a van with a wheelchair ramp because transferring my mother in the car is a fall risk for us both . Please Help. Judy

Some one asked me this question last week and I looked on the internet and found several sites, but I didn't get the feeling that they would give anything. Have you checked the medicare. One other way I've noticed with handicapped vans is the plymouth, they have are close to the ground and have a ramp up into the van. I hope you find any answer and hope someone else gives you some answers too. Its tough. God Bless

i live in portsmouth and need to hire a people carrier or similar to take my mother in law to blackpool as she is frail and is in a wheelchair this will be needed in november

Some taxi companies have this facility. Check yellow pages for ones in your area.

Aren't you nice taking Mum-in-law out for a trip! (at least I hope that's the plan and you aren't up to some foul play cos you can't face another of her Sunday roasts!!!)
