My wife and I want to vacation there for 5 days in late May. We are both physically disabled. We are leaning toward The New York Palace, but it is a bit pricey. We live near Sacramento, CA, and are planning to fly there via JetBlue.
The New York Palace is indeed pricy. It is one of the most opulent places that you could chose in Manhattan. Have you tried the Mariott Marquis? It is right in Times Square--is quite comfortable, has exceptional views and is convenient to everything in Midtown. Regardless of where you choose, have a wonderful trip to the Big Apple.

I'm in NY with my friend who uses a wheelchair to get around, and we've found that the majority of subway stations are not accessable. How is this not considered a violation of the ADA?
I'm not a native New Yorker -- but could it be that the Subway system isn't the only form of public transportation in New York? If it was the only form of transportation, it would have to be accessible to all. However, since there are many forms available, with some meeting the needs of disabled patrons, the Subway probably isn't required by law to meet those needs.

And how about other countries too? What are the good destinations out there?
depends. how are you traveling? bus, taxi (if u are wheelchaired, u cant), subway, last but not least, walking. the bus is wheelchair accesable, but it takes a while to get around, cause the streets are filled w/ cars. u cant do a taxi because taxis arent wheelchair applicable. teh subway, not a bad idea, but it will be crouded and take a while to get out. or walking. if you walk, make shure none of your possessions are taken. make shure that u can make it the path u decide to go.
the other countries, depends on the population of hte city. if it is crouded, like nyc, follow the instrucions above. if it isnt, and has a low crime rate, u can walk.
Id suggest rome. it is awesome. i went on a trip there recentally

It's kind of touch-and-go. There are stations that are accessible, and some not, and you really just have to know which ones are. here's the info:

DePaul Stumbles Across Neighbors in NYC - Welcome to DePaul Athletics
CHICAGO - In a recent trip to New York City, the DePaul volleyball team got the unique opportunity to cheer on athletes in the Ninth Annual Major League Wheelchair Softball Tournament. The tournament, in affiliation with the Wheelchair Sports Federation, was held outside Citi Field in Queens, the home of the New York Mets.
The six-team tournament featured teams from various MLB affiliates, including the Chicago Cubs, New York Mets, New York Yankees, Boston Redsox and Colorado Rockies.
Wheelchair softball was started over 25 years ago in the Midwest by a few individuals with spinal cord injuries and lower extremity impairments, who still wanted to enjoy America's greatest pastime. In order to accommodate wheelchair mobility, the game was moved from a grassy infield to a hard surface diamond, such as a parking lot. A 16-inch softball was used to allow for wheelchair players to keep one hand on the wheelchair while catching the softball without a glove.
