Funding Sources for Wheelchair Accessible Van?

Anyone know of funding sources for a wheelchair accessible van if you live in Michigan USA? Other than loans, what resources are out there if any?

you might want to try talking to an advocacy group like this one... They generally can help, and if they can't they have the resources to tell you where to go for help.....

You might actually try talking to someone at a wheelchair store, they might be able to give you information on what they have seen in the past and what they have worked with. It might seem like a lot of work, but try a couple different people to talk to and see if someone can't help, or if they know of anyone who might help in the area.

There were also a few links that I found that sounded like they were organizations that might help.....

Funding for making home wheelchair accessable for adult with CP?

My brother in law has very debilitating CP. He lives with his mother who is not well off and the house is not wheelchair friendly AT ALL. His mother has just been picking him up and carrying him room to room for years, but is aging and may not be able to do it much longer. Does anyone know of any programs that may be able to help his family make changes to the house for give both mother a break and son a little freedom?

check to see if there is Government assistance through something like a disability services. If something like that isn't in your area approach some politicians in your area to see if they know of any way that you can try for some assistance. Not sure about where you are if this will help but we have those types of organisations in Australia

I did a lot of research for my diabetic boss but we live here in california - the best prices I can find was in ebay and if you need spare parts there is Value Mobility call FRANK 1-800 717 1252 - he delivers and you get a live person - very nice guy and answers all your questions and dependable in shipping item to you. As for the motorized wheelchair your biggest cost will be shipping and handling if you buy out of australia - can cost you as much as $900 to $1200 for S/H if you cannot find a local in australia because of packaging and weight. You can get good prices and mobility with Jazzy 600 by Pride, you can buy used one for $1200 to $2400 brand new cost $3700up. My boss had an old Jazzy 1100 and this model is still good mobility - can find used one for as low as $400 - $600.

Contact social services for the aged or elderly. Also check with the disability dept. they have funding for that sort of problem to help the disabled. Your a special young man good luck.

contact_vp: A bit worrying

If I remember right, awhile ago somebody needing abortion funding asked in VP, and the response was really good. Like this poster, she didn't outright intend to ask for help, it just sort of came up. I mean that was a bit more "big", but I think if a VP'er wants to help outside of the site (and the OP is sincere, which we've no reason to doubt), that's the choice and responsibility of both parties. :)
