I believe it was a childrens novel. It's about an incredibly smart boy who is in a wheelchair. I believe he memorizes the dictionary, or possibly the encyclopedia. It's not the "Encyclopedia Brown" novels. The boy has a mentally disabled friend who protects him. I really enjoyed this book as a kid but my memory isnt as good as it used to be.
Freak the Mighty by Rodman Philbrick
story of triumph over imperfection, shame, and loss. Large, awkward, learning-disabled Maxwell Kane, whose father is in prison for murdering his mother, and crippled, undersized Kevin are both mocked by their peers; the cruel taunting they endure is all too realistic and believable. The boys establish a friendship-and a partnership. Kevin defends them with his intelligence, while Max is his friend's "legs," affording him a chance to participate in the larger world. Inspired by tales of King Arthur, they become knights fighting for good and true causes. But Kevin's illness progresses, and when he dies, Max is left with the memories of an extraordinary relationship and, perhaps, the insight to think positively about himself and his future.

do you think 1st as a wheelchair user there is enough room on the public transport and enough lifts ?
and for disable people bad at walking long distances what would you like to see more of lifts, parking spaces, seats etc ?
i see you have had some nutters on chris yes my aunt uses a wheel chair arthritis and disc problems and there is only enough room on public transport bus for 1 wheelchair and more seats and more lifts would be great ! people have no respect for disabled people but you never know it could be you one day
I have been given two wheelchair area tickets for a concert. The disabled person who bought them and his companion cannot make it.
Will I have any problems using them? I am not disabled.
Depends on the specific venue. In some places if one person is not using a wheelchair they will not be allowed to be seated, while in other places the seats are for people with disabilities - including non wheelchair users. One of your seats may not be a seat at all- but an empty bit of floor. I have been in more than one place where non chair users without a chair using companion were not allowed to stay.
What are you going to do if there is one traditional seat and next to it is a place where a seat was removed for a chair-user? Is one of you going to sit on the floor? Stand the whole time? I don't think so.
Well this is kind of a question i have always wondered the answer to i go down the streets and everyone stares at me and looks at me and tells me oh Jessica ur going in the wrong toilets that says wheelchair and ur not in a wheelchair and personally i think its none of there business what i do i mean yes disabled toilets do have a wheelchair sign on them but it doesn't say just for people in wheelchairs i mean come on.
Personally I think it is an issue of priority.
First, it is an accessible stall - so that means it has been configured differently so people can use it that cannot use other stalls. Those people may or may not use wheelchairs. There are lots of people for a variety of reasons that need those accessible stlls and are not chair users.
I do not believe anyone should use an accessible stall who does not NEED its accessibility when another stall is vacant, unless your need is urgent. Now you might think that is unfair that you have to wait when a stall is vacant, but lets look at it from another perspective. There are 8 stalls, you come in and use the accessible stall. A disabled person comes in directly after you. They do not get to use the next available stall - they have to watch while 7 other stalls can become vacant while still waiting for you to finish. You could have waited until the next stall vacated and gotten in almost as quickly, while the person with the disability has to wait and wait.
I have been in the situation where a person has changed their clothes in the accessible stall, while I wait for 10 minutes - desperate to go - and have to watch as stall after stall empty and fill. I have no other choice. People without accessibility issues do have a choice.
So can you use it? Legally, yes. Should you use it? Only in very limited circumstances.
I've been hearing stories from friends about a person in a wheelchair going around small stores with a lawyer in California accusing many small stores that they do not allow enough space for them to get around. I heard the lawyer got his license taken away for abusing power but another lawyer and a supposed disabled person is doing it again. Is this story seriously true? Is there any websites I can read this story from?
This is actually a true story. As with any kind of regulation or law, there is always the chance someone will figure out a way to abuse it. The individual I recall was barred from filing any more lawsuits (albeit in only one of the court districts) due to his prolific 'rubber stamp' type lawsuits. I'm not sure if he was claiming to be some kind of 'crusader' or if he was only in it for the money, but the attorney in question was also barred from filing more suits.
