How do you make a wheelchair out of a desk stool?

I really want to get a wheelchair for my cousin, but right now, I don't have the money. I wanna make a good quality wheelchair, and the only thing I can buy for it is the wheels which I know a place with cheap wheelchair wheels. It's about 1' 2" HEIGHT and 1'4" WIDTH . It has 3" blocks of wood which I think would be good for wheels, front and back. But the stool has no back, so I wanted to see suggestions about that, and foot platforms for more comfort. But my cousins birthday is a week from now and I need to start quick, so I need some answers now!

You must not like ur cousin all that much. Instead of risking physical harm when that contraption falls apart, buy a decent used one. If he really needs a wheelchair rent one until you can buy or the rental place may know how to get gov't assistance for one.

BTW, what's he using right now to get around?

u like it, icertainly did. leave a like sub and enjoy. hey make sure to buy a 6inch hahahahahhahahahhaha. I mean no offence to anyone in a wheel ...

In the game of Scategories, an opponent listed a wheelchair as furniture. Is this a valid piece of furniture?

Nowhere does the Americans with Disabilities Act (that I can find) list a wheelchair as being a piece of furniture (like a desk or table) but rather, only as a mobility device. Furthermore, no furniture stores carry wheelchairs.

is a crutch a piece of furniture?

What is a good job for someone in a wheelchair?

I know I just asked this, but I put it in the wrong section.

I am currently a nanny, but my medical condition is getting to the point where the doctor is suggesting that I start using a wheelchair to make life easier and less painful for me. Other than a desk job, what would be the best job for me to do?

You can do anything you are interested in. If you are unable to go to others' homes because of inaccessibility, you might try babysitting children in your own home.

What kind of work interests you? Teaching? Acting? Lab Tech? Administrative? There is no reason to believe that you can't do something just because you are in a wheelchair; you will just have to do things differently than people who are not in wheelchairs. If you are concerned about transportation issues, there are a few jobs you can do from home: telemarketing, medical transcription, recording books on tape, jewellry making and other craftwork...

Visit your local employment centre and ask for an interest and aptitude inventory. A qualified career counsellor will help you to interpret the results and use them for setting education and career goals.

Good luck

Does anyone know where I can get a height adjustable desk?

I have a back problem that causes me to need to stand, sit, stand, etc a lot throughout the day, and need to find a desk I can raise and lower. I've only found ones for people who are disabled and those seem to be too big (so they can fit a wheelchair, which I don't need) and to be very expensive. I just need one wide enough for a laptop and whatever papers I'm working with. I'm in the London area, so somewhere near there or via the internet is preferable. Thank you!
Thanks for the quick answers. Stevie t, couldn't find any adjustable desks on that site. Chancer, what's a poofie? And rykker, I tried Ikea's only adjustable desk and it wouldn't hold my laptop steady. Thanks for the help, anyway!
Thanks for the info regarding the chairs. I won't go into details, but I don't need a chair, I need a desk that can be altered. No wall for the shelves, but a brilliant idea. Thanks, everyone.

i know ikea do adjustable tables, but i think they may be a bit fiddley to adjust, maybe you should check them out anyway though, may be a cheap solution

Is checking something at the gate really better than checking it in at the desk normally?

Anyone work as a baggage handler or on the ramp at any airport? I'm an ex-F/A so I never really saw that side of the "operation". I read that as a tip for those transporting children's car seats and I'm not convinced that dragging it all the way to the gate really is that better than simply checking it in intially and then slapping a few "fragile" stickers on it. Are they handled with more care with the wheelchairs and strollers? Correct me if I'm wrong and feel free to eloborate.

From what I have seen, the gate can have a spiral chute or one with big turn up at the end to catch gate checked stuff like strollers. Anything sent down that chute gets quite hard treatment. If your talking about a small airport and small plane then it sometimes works that you dump stuff on the ground beside the plane and they load it on, then off load at other end and you pick up as you step off the plane. But that is only for those planes which dont dock to a skybridge.
