How can I go about asking a construction company to maybe donate a ramp for a MS Event?

I am currently working on a 2 day concert series here in the Dallas Area called Dallas Rockers 4 MS. I thought it would be great if we were able to secure a construction to maybe build a wheelchair ramp for someone with MS but am unsure how to go about asking without feeling like I am bothering them. Are there ways of asking them for such a gift or should I not even bother even though I have all the proper paperwork.

I would write a letter explaining the event and just straight out ask them if they would be willing to donate what you are looking for, I would even suggest you saying that you will throw the companies name on marketing material.

In the companies eyes they will see they are getting free marketing for a good cause while you are using the product you need,

New Construction 2 BD w/ Wheelchair Access

description

When did wheelchair ramps at public buildings appear for the first time?

When did elevators, buses, railway cars and all that stuff for physically handicapped people appear in your country? Is the construction of ramps or stair railings a subject to law? I'm from Russia, people back here have used to neglect this problem competely. I need your answers to start the struggle for human rights of physically handicapped Russians.

The big push for wheelchair ramps and other accommodations for the handicapped came after the passage of the Americans with Disabilities Act in 1990. With the passage of this act, businesses which provide service to the public were required to make their businesses accessible to those with the public.

Violation of the Americans with Disabilities Act is a civil rights violation, and most businesses take it seriously.

Is it inappropriate to raise funds for a family member?

My father has worked his entire life in construction and sustained an injury in July that left him in a wheelchair and unable to work. Since then he has yet to be approved for disability and has no income. My brother, sister, and myself have been helping in every way we can but it just isnt enough.

So, my question is...is it inappropriate or in bad taste to raise money thru fundraisers for an immeadiate family member?

If not, what are some good ideas for fundraising projects?

Your absolutely within bounds to raise money for family members! Until you hear from disability bills need to be paid.

I've got some great ideas for you:

Try scratch cards. You hand the person a card, they scratch a square that reveals their donation amount. In return you give them a coupon to a local store. Each card raises over $100. All you have to do is get out there in front of people.

Cookie dough is an easy sell. You don't even have to buy it up front. Go around and get your friends and family to place an order. Put a booth in a local mall. The professional fundraising company sends you the dough. Have people show up to pick it up on a certain day. This has worked for schools and sports teams so it's a tried idea.

All kinds of different ideas for chocolates/nuts/ trail mixes available.

Have some items donated and have a night at a bar deducated to raising funds for him.

Check out the sites below for more ideas
Good luck and all the best to your father!

Tips for starting a wheelchair transport company?

I am planning on starting my own wheelchair transport company soon.I drove for a company for awhile, and there is good money in it.I'm also apparently not good at typing the right keywords in to get the info.Anyone know, for example, how much insurance is required (I am targeting the VA,huge business)Any other tips?I worked the Army 20 years,no difficult paperwork.I was a construction contractor 17 years after that. Not very difficult.I imagine dealing with medical patients and govt agencies will be a LOT of paperwork.Anybody perchance in that business?I know I won't get all answers needed here, and thankfully my wife loves paperwork. But I'm trying to gather as much info as possible to be ready.Plan to start it 1st of the year.Darn sick of being retired,Too old to go have a teenager be my boss.I can drive, the vets loved to have a fellow vet to talk to,but, when I drove before,I simply paid the lease(650 a wk)and had no paperwork to do,other than get signatures of customers. So,any tips?
Gerald:GREAT TIP!Thank you very much!!!!!

grants for accessibility?

Where can I find sources of funding: governement grants and foundations to help pay for the construction of a wheelchair ramp into a church that is used for a large number of community programs on a daily basis.

Where do you live? I know a couple in Canada but they're for Canadians only...
