I am trying to do regular maintenance on my wheelchair and I can't get the bearing out of my caster (front wheel). Any suggestions?

Hi,
Here's my dilemma:
I use a manual wheelchair part time for a chronic illness. I'd like to get 26" rear wheels so my arms will need less help pushing, but I'd also like to reduce my front casters down to 4" light up scooter wheels (they are currently 6"). However, I don't want to tip forward too much, and I actually do need the footrests to stay on.
So assuming I only need my current caster assemblies or forks to be about 2" taller (8" from the bend to where the wheel bolts through, total), how do I do that? Should I just use one of the 8" caster forks with a 4" wheel? Would there be any problems with that? Are there any other solutions?
Thanks!

Also a wheelchair user. I have seen this done, just don't know how...lol. I work at a wheelchair company actually. You need to call your local wheelchair company and they will be able to help you.
On a wheelchair, usually casters are placed in front so the wheel chair can turn.
If you look closely, the front caster's fork are bent not straight.
Can anyone scientifically explain why it is designed this way?
Thanks for the answer. Do you think center of gravity has to do anything with the design?
This bending of the fork causes the caster to trail behind its swivel axis when the chair is pushed, meaning that the caster wheel automatically falls into line with the desired direction of motion and rolls easily and smoothly since the wheel is aligned in the direction of the push!
D'you need a deeper explanation?

A wheelchair has two wheels in the back. The diameter of each wheel is 26 inches. The wheelchair also has two casters in the front. The diameter of each caster is eight inches. The circumference of one wheel is how much larger than the circumference of one caster? Assume that the wheels and casters are perfect circles. The units are expressed in inches.
A.) π(26 ÷ 8)
B.) π(26 - 8)
C.) (26 - 8) ÷ π
D.) (13 + 4) ÷ π
I'm gonna guess B) ?

SFSU Designs Rugged Wheelchairs For Haiti - KCBS
An engineering venture, based at a local state university, is sending hundreds of wheelchairs to Haiti. Tens of thousands of quake survivors are in need of the much in demand item.
Marc Krizak, the executive director of Whirlwind Wheelchair based at San Francisco State University, says they've been designing rugged wheel chairs for the third world for 20 years. Their founder, Ralf Hotfchkiss, who teaches mechanical engineering at SF State became a paraplegic after a motorcycle accident in the 60s.
KCBS' Larry Chiaroni reports
Krizak says their rough rider wheelchair model is perfect for the post earthquake terrain in Haiti, with mountain bike tires in the back, larger than normal caster tires in front and a long wheelbase, making a wheelchair that's extra durable and stable.
