I need plans on how to build a Bunny Cart/Wheelchair for my Rabbit?

My bunny is a flemish giant at 17lbs. He was taken to the vet for absesses on his back leg that turned out to be cancerus. The vet has to take the leg off to save him. Does anyone know where i can find plans to build/make a bunny cart/wheelchair for a extra large bunny? I need these to be simple and easy to build. I only have acess to a home depot.

You should probably have the rabbit put to sleep. You might be able to build a wheelchair, but think about the poor rabbit's quality of life. It's selfish to keep the rabbit alive and suffering just so you can still have a pet.

How much does a doggie cart/wheelchair cost on average?

Hi, I have a 9 (almost 10) year old Dachshund. She is currently having problems with her hind legs, but thank God, she is in NO pain. I currently do not have the money for surgery or anything else extremely expensive. I am wondering how much do those wheelchairs normally cost. It needs to be a small one obviously, for my dog. I would appreciate any answers or links! Thank you in advance.

I had to buy one for one of my dogs who had a spinal chord infection. (Which she did recover from)

At that time (early 90's) I paid $350 for a custom made K-9 Cart.

This company has been making them for years.

THEY NOW HAVE A RENTAL PROGRAM.

I only did it for my dog because she was going to regain the use of her legs. It was temporary used both for physical therapy and for her mental outlook as she was very depressed when she was down.

I would not ever subject a dog to long term paralysis as an acceptable form of living.

Where can I find a cart or wheelchair for my border collie, as she has become paralyzed from the waist down?

Thank you so much for your suggestions. I have taken my pet to a surgeon, she is not suitable for surgery, so a cart seems to me to be the only option to keep her muscles from weakening and to let her lead a semi-normal and happy life. Other than her loss of leg function, bladder and bowel function, she is a gem.
Thanks again. I will re-visit the web sites and decide where to go from here.

I'm sorry to hear that!
Your vet may have been in this situation before, and they might know someone who could help.
Here are some sites that have wheelchairs or carts for dogs: (I just googled "Wheelchairs for dogs.")

How do senior Siberian Huskies take to a dog wheelchair or cart?

I have a 13 year old female Siberian Husky with severe degenerative arthritis. We believe she may also have some nerve damage that is causing muscle wasting in her shoulders and legs despite daily walks and massage. My question is this: how well do senior Huskies take to carts ("dog wheelchairs")? She is very weak in her back end, especially at the end of the day, and I'm hoping that a little extra support will help her take longer walks without as much energy expenditure. She is pretty patient about us "helping" her into the car and up stairs. She can still walk on her own, she's just a little shaky sometimes. Our vet says she will not improve - she is on Welactin and Cosequin to keep her joints healthy, and Deramaxx to keep her out of pain. I would like to keep her mobile as long as possible. Has anyone had experience with Huskies and carts?
She is still very active, alert, and happy. She eats well and loves her walks - they are her favorite thing to do. She does have a big yard, but it's not as much fun. The vet says the walks are good for her, as they will help keep her stronger longer. I just worry that she will exhaust herself on the walks, and make the weakness worse in her back legs. I thought a cart might help support her weight so she could enjoy the walks even more.

Hmmm....I'm trying to think of anyone who has dealt with this before that I know of, and I can't come up with anything.

I've never even seen bigger dogs of any breed use the wheelchairs. I just can't see putting a Siberian through the indignity of a wheelchair.

I lost a 14 year old male Siberian last summer who had been chronically weak in the rear for about 3 years. We'd lost his littermate to the same problem. He had good days and bad days, but finally it got to the point where he could no longer get up and move, and I made the decision to put him down. Very tough, since he would still eat okay, and was very alert.

But for an athletic working dog, I just don't see the quality of life. And I wouldn't drag it out to spare myself.

13 is getting up there. Does she need longer walks? My old guys pretty much get to do whatever they want, and if that includes simply shuffling around the yard for a few minutes as opposed to a real walk, that's fine with me. I agree with your vet that she will not improve, but it sounds like you're doing all you can to keep her strong.

I'm sorry I don't have more information for you. Good luck!

  • Bedrest Digest: My first wheelchair trip

My sweet mother has this idea that I can't stand, much less take a few steps, so when we shut down the engine and I begin to get out of the van,I jolt to her frantic scream  "Don't move!" She jumps out of the car, runs to the back to get out the wheelchair and brings it right up to my door. I can now fall into the seat, my feet never touching the ground! Once we get inside, we start to get a cart and then look from cart, to wheelchair, cart to wheelchair. How is my mother going to push me AND the cart? We think and ponder and finally come up with the great idea that I will push the cart and she can push me! Genious! We put Addison in the base of the cart, so she can sleep. The Harris train...
