Anyone out there know if you can get an electric wheelchair on a pontoon boat?
Silla de ruedas/Wheelchair, Ruby Princess, Georgetown, Grand Cayman '09 - www.meEncantaViajar.com

I'm looking at party barges and would appreciate some first hand knowledge about the accessibility issue...being in a wheeichair myself I need some feedback on the in's an outs, do's & don'ts with party barge/pontoon boats and 300lb wheelchair not including me.

So if you or someone you know has dealt with this situation please let me know...thanks.

I agree with Tom above. Just make sure that when you do purchase a pontoon, that the deck is big enough that you will be able to move around in the wheelchair. Most pontoons are large enough to hold 12+ people, so I do not think that you will have a problem with the weight of the wheelchair.

Is there anybody in the UK who owns a private canal boat built specifically for a wheelchair user?
Wheelchair

A friend of mine is having a canalboat built, and would be interested to hear from anyone who has similarly done so.

i dont remember the name, i moved away about 4 years ago, but used to work at princess yachts, in billing, northamptonshire, and there was a large canal boat there, built for disabled people. it didnt belong to the delersihp, they just stored it, but might be worth giving them a call, and finding out who it is that owns it.

Wheelchair bound Bass fishing from boat?
Wheelchair 1

I want to take my nephew out on my Ranger 20' Bass boat and was wondering if there are any precautions I should take. He is 25 years old veteran of war in Iraq and been in a chair since 2004. He has amazing upper body strength but he has no legs. He loves to bass fish and I would love to take him on a nice fishing trip to Lake Texoma. Are there any of you with experience in mobility impaired boating and fishing and if so, what do I do to make a safe enjoyable trip.

Thanks for all help.
He hasn't enough leg stub to buckle in a seat harness so what the heck now. He wants to go on an 80mph boat ride and who can blame him.

The Coast Guard Auxiliary is a good place to start.
Also the ADA.
I know there are associations for mobility impaired sailors out there that are worth a search.
Main thing is to get him out there safely & let him enjoy the water.
Best regards to both of you

me and my partner are looking to hire or maybe buy a 70 foot wheelchair user friendly narrow boat?
Disabled

Where are you wanting to be? There are a number of organisations who will hire you a canal boat which is specifically modified for disabled use.

In Scotland try Seagull Trust Cruises. web site below. They have a hire boat at Falkirk.

Elsewhere in England and Wales you will need to Google using "disabled boat hire" or similar

Http://i753.photobucket.com/albums/x...g?t=1255678618 Hi all for the last few years I had a bayliner 2655 in Quivvy marina in Belturbet and loved it,I had to sell this year because my son who is 8 now and is in a wheelchair full time was to heavy to lift on and off.My wife suffers from M.S so it's a one man job for me.I want to get back to the inland waterways in the future and was thinking of cutting the back or side off a boat like a powles or haines and building a ramp up and in the double doors were he can stay and sleep. So if you see a boat that had something like this on it I would love to see some photos ,Thanks Fergal. p.s a hoist wont work for us . I think there is a boat,a broom 32...
