When I booked the private hire car for my mum I was assured there was a way to clamp the wheelchair down and a seat belt for her. When the time came the taxi picked her up got her and the wheelchair in the car but did not clamp it down or offer a seat belt, causing her to feel very unsafe. Is it against the law in the UK to carry a disabled passenger in her wheelchair without clamping it down and offering a seat belt if it was fitted in the car?
By law and its not just your local council, its e.u. but your local council has to enforce the law. When a wheel chair is placed into a wheelchair friendly or private hire, which incidentally have stricter rules now as new legislation is in. They must be clamped to the floor to stop movement and a safety belt put across the passenger. If the job isnt done right report it, you wont be named. They don't reduce the cost when things go wrong. You must be more daring, You can approach a cabbie and say Im worried about my Mum not being secured. what happens (god forbid) in an accident. Don't think the office would know. Cabbies have to be squeaky clean now and if they dont do there job they are hauled over the coals.

CP- Cerebral Palsy. She is 31.(medcaid will not pay for a custom chair after the age of 21.) i've asked the salvation army, Good Samaratin found., Catholic Charities org., L.I.F.E., the UCP foundation, all have said they don't have the funds to help. the chair she got as a teenager (m-caid paid for-when she was a teen-) she has outgrown, and it has rusted, and is falling apart, her mom has to use pillows and ties to position and secure her, it is very unsafe.

bad enough im on a wheelchair and i dont know any mechanics that can fix my problem.i do drive but i really need to fix that............
More than likely it is your fan belt or your a/c belt. They may be loose or too tight . Check for any cracks in belt if there are any buy a new belt, if there arent' any try this quick fix - get a regular bar of soap any kind and rub it on inside part of belt. Should work- Good Luck.
okay i am 16 and got hit by the belt when i was younger like 5or 6 and it work for me cause after that i knew not to disrespect my mother and my two other brothers 19, 22, got hit by the belt when they were younger and they have learn not disrespect our mother. i have one more brother who is 14 but he never got it by the belt he is mentally disabled he can talk but not the good he can walk but really bad he is in a wheelchair most of the time i give credit to our mother cause she is a single mother our father walked out on us have not seen him forever. plus i we also no not to disrespect our mothers cause my moms mom lives with us. my uncle and aunt our next store neighborhood my aunt and uncle are cops
only got hit by the belt one or twice do not get hit by the belt anywhere
I'm glad I'm not the only who got hit by a belt before.... yeah same thing happened to me.... and now I respect my parents a LOT.

Wheelchair: Seat Belt « Area 42
A seat belt? Why? For quite a while, I thought it would be silly to put a seat belt on my wheelchair. “Yeah, I’ve got bad hips,” I’d think, “but I’m not so disabled that I can’t keep my butt in a chair.” (Not yet, anyway.)
But lately, I’ve noticed an almost constant need to scoot back in my wheelchair’s seat. The little jerk of a quick stop or turn is enough to slide me out of position, especially when I’m headed down a ramp. Its only an inch here or there, but my sitting posture gets messed up pretty quickly. My back gets sore, and the sliding back and forth gets, well, abrasive. Also, the chair gets more tippy if I head down an incline while I’m sitting forward in the seat. I often have to squirm or stand up briefly to reposition myself.
