I am attempting to help a mother who's 19 year old son was injured at age 3 in a car accident that left him in a wheelchair. The mother would like to remodel a bathroom so that at his adult age he can bathe and take care of himself in the bathroom. This small amount of independence could mean the world to this young man. Is anyone aware of any organizations that may be helpful in providing assistance to this family? I appreciate ANY suggestions. Thank you
Contact Easter Seals. Also your largest community hospital may have some referrals to community agencies that can help. Does her son have a State Rehabilitation Counselor? He is old enough to find some of these himself too, I am not aware of any that would do a complete remodel, but they can help make accomodations.
An example shown by Sammy, of how dogs can assist by opening doors, helping with difficult terrain, and then closing the door.
I am looking for picture diagrams of a two person assist for the transfer of a person from a wheelchair to the floor and back. Are there any good websites for this?
Ok use it.-

My grandmother was recently in the same horrible hospital every month for the past five months, two times having a major surgeyr, being in there for a month and very weak upon leaving, and every single time they discharged her they signed the papers and sent her walking out the door, from my knowledge and experience the hospital usually puts you in a wheelchair and takes you to the exit/ vehicle picking you up, i was just curious as to wether or not this is required by law or if I just was in an exceptional hospital?
I was under the impression that they always do this to protect themselves from liability if a discharged patient pancakes face down in the lobby while leaving. I tried to get up and walk once and they would not let me for that reason.

How Much to Tip for Wheelchair Assistance in Airports - In Transit ...
There are numerous opinions on this travel etiquette question. According to Cynthia Lett, the founder and Executive Director of the International Society of Protocol & Etiquette Professionals, quoted on AARP.org , “the standard for being helped in a wheelchair is $10 but could be as much as $20” if the attendant helps with luggage or an airline issue. CNN/Money used the Emily Post Institute, Tipping.org and “The Itty Bitty Guide to Tipping” by Stacie Krajchir and Carrie Rosten (Chronicle Books, 2004) to arrive at $2 to $3 per person for a wheelchair pusher.
You could also make the argument that all this tipping equates to a disability tax. Why should you have to pay more to get on and off a plane because you are wheelchair bound? The airport should provide wheelchair assistance and electric cart rides to passengers who don’t have a choice, gratis. But that is not standard, and in matters of etiquette, you must give a nod to accepted practice. A 20 percent tip is an arbitrary but standard service tip in restaurants because it is.
