does anyone know of a company that makes wheelchair accessible recreational vehicles?

i have a power chair i am able to walk inside the vehicle if i have walls to hang on to or bars in the roof to hold on to and are there rentals of recreational vehicles already adapted for wheelchair users i am just wanting to travel but cerebal palsey makes it difficult to use small spaces and not hurt myself in the process including the fact all the r.v. i have seen have a bathroom i cannot use nore do they have a shower i can use the bed is no big deal but getting clothes on me is going to be more harded in tight spaces if anyone has experience in this and know of a way to get an r.v. adapted i would be so thankfull thanks everyone

I understand your concerns. In general, the market for wheelchair accessible RV is small enough that most customize an existing RV instead by adding wheelchair lifts and modify existing hardware and entry and showers and such.

Here's a link to more links that may help.

Are there any programs out there that would help a 16 yr old kid in a wheelchair get and adapt a vehicle?

My son is soon to be 16. I drive a suburban..he wants a van that he can drive his chair up into..any ideas?

Hello,
The answer to your question is yes, but it depends on the state you live in, so you must check your blue book in the yellow or white pages and find the ADA (American's with Disabilities) Once you call them, they will help you with the programs in your area so that your son may have a chance to get his van equipped for a good price or even free depending on your finances.
My son, who is 27 now, lived in Ct with us and is still handi-capable! HE has been driving since he was 16 and has adapted his vehicles on his own now, but when he was your son's age, we made sure we were aware of what could be offered to him. It seems like you are giving your son the independence he needs. Way to go mom! I did the same 10 years ago and my son has been on his own since then. SO try that number first and also try The United Spinal Association which used to be The Paralyzed Veterans Assn. ( YOU know, the ones who ask for donations) They are very adept at giving you advice on who to call as well. Good luck with this and by the way; the Dept. of Motor Vehicles also gives special driving lessons and the road test with special vehicles so make sure you ask for that as well.... GOOD luck with this.

Getting You and Your Wheelchair From Point A to point B – Your ...

Ok. You have your wheelchair, you love it, you are highly mobile, but now you want to go to your friend’s place 10 miles away across the highway. Well, you could probably make it there on one battery charge, but there is a faster and safer way to do it – get a car. Being in a wheelchair does not mean you can’t drive, it just means you need the right vehicle.

Most mobility converted vehicles are vans. Mini or full size vans can support a wheelchair ramp or lift, have the interior capacity for you, your wheelchair and your friends, and are economical. Like regular vehicles they have a large number of options. These are not just color, leather seats and upgraded rims type options, but options that allow you as a wheelchair bound person to access and safely maneuver your vehicle. Getting a handle on what options you need and how to find the right converted mobility vehicle for you is the topic of the WheelchairForMe.com  article How to Select a Wheelchair Vehicle and it should help you through your buying process.
