Van: That can have a manual door ramp for a wheelchair to roll in.
Which makes can have this? Sienna?Odyssey?Dodge Caravans?
What year would the price range match. What would be a rip off?
Looking to buy a van, my bro is on a wheelchair and wondering what to look for. Thanks car experts.
krazybob, there are cab vans that have the manual wheelchair ramp, would be cheaper than a lift... there is headroom.. but most likely not on all vans
You will need a full sized half ton or heavier van - the the compact minivans will not have enough headroom to get a person in a wheel chair in and out of the van while they are in the wheel chair. Most will have a power lift, not a ramp because of the hazards of getting someone in or out when it is raining or snowing.

I need to know this for school. How much is it to put in different types of wheelchair access systems, such as automatic doors, "please ring for assistance" buttons, etc?
This depends a LOT on details, but some basics would be...
Automatic door- about $1,000 installed if no complications.
Alert chimes- about $200
Ramps- about $500 for a short one, up to a few thousand for a longer one
Modified bathrooms can be cheap- under $300, to really expensive at over $10,000 depending on the mods needed

48 inches is the standard wheelchair accessible door width. I'm looking for doors that are 48 inchs wide. Lowe's does not sale them. I am looking for something cheap, nothing fancy. Thanks!
Hi,
A 48 inch door is probably going to be hard to find, depending upon where you're located. You may need to have it custom built. You may also be able to use two doors to fill the opening. I have seen two doors used without a mullion in between. One door stays latched with a flip lever and opens when you need it and the other swings free like a normal door. I'm not sure it would be as accessible as a single door though. You may want to get a quote from a local cabinet shop to see what you're up against. If they can't make it, they'll know who can. Hope this helps, good luck.

Last year I moved into a beautiful apartment (which I still love and would like to stay here) but the problem is that when I moved in my health was good. I recently became quite ill and am now in a wheelchair. I am having a difficult time in my apartment with getting through doors, the fridge door is on the wrong side so I can't get into it easily (does anyone know if a normal fridge door can be switched over to the other side so it opens from left to right instead of right to left?), I have trouble trying to reach stuff in upper cupboards but I have stuff in the lower cupboards too, I keep bumping into the corner of walls and have damaged them, and basically need ANY ideas that anyone might be able to suggest on how I can convert my apartment so it's more wheelchair accessible.
Perhaps you haven't yet seen the diabled site (govt.) which will give you lots of ideas. You can get cabinets and cupboards that slide down to your level with a remote control, and this makes accessing things very much easier. Perhaps you should get in a kitchen designer to solve some of the problems. In the meantime, here is a site that has a webpage and articles on creating a wheelchair-friendly kitchen...hope it helps a little!

My apartment building is a 3 story building in Berkeley, CA. I was going to invite some family over to visit me but realized that both my Uncle, who is handicapped, and my Grandpa would never make it up the stairs. This just doesn't seem legal to me. What would happen if I broke MY leg or needed special assistance for any reason??? Would I have to move out?? It seems crazy!
How do I find out more about such laws that apply to my situation in California? I have noticed many similar problems in this area i.e. my school bathrooms are not wheelchair accessible and one guy in my class was locked in the bathroom for hours because he couldn't open the door! HELP!
Why did you rent an apartment without handicap Access when you know2 you have relatives who need it to visit you? Rather thoughtless of you.
Why should they be required to provide for your needs or wants? Did you ask for this in your lease? Are you willing to pay for these accommodations? Is your apartment open for public access? I did not think so,
