(see figure) for a business. Using your knowledge of right-triangle trigonometry, help advise him how to create a ramp whose dimensions will meet the specification needed that will allow wheelchair accessibility. Talk about the procedure the contractor will need to follow to find the dimensions of the three sides and the measurements of the three angles. Consider the implications of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) in your discussion and provide an example.
Basic issue is the maximum safe ramp angle. If you know the height difference then you can find the length of ramp by the following relationship:
ramp length = (height change) / sin (ramp angle)
suppose the height difference is 4 ft, and safe maximum ramp angle is 10 degree (I don't know this angle is correct, you need to look this up at ADA website). Then the length of ramp is:
ramp length = 4 / sin 10 = 23 ft.

We are despirately trying to relocate our parents and their caretaker to a wheelchair accessible apartment (2 bedroom) in southwestern Virginia. But, we are finding it impossible to find any vacancy.
What are we supposed to do??? Everywhere we call we are getting either over qualified (based on income) or age restrictions. Isn't there any resources for relocating someone who has become wheelchair dependent? Don't apartments have to have so many handicap accessible units? Please help!!!
Yes, but the waiting lists for them is usually years long. On average most people have to wait 3-8 years for accessible vacancies as most are government subsidized.
Get on as many lists as you can. Find out who passes out HUD vouchers and get on their email lists that will notifiy you when the lists open.
This is one of the reasons people with disabilities rarely move - once they find an accessible place they live they stay put.
Good luck.
You might try this - The Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association (AOPA). Their web site is www.AOPA.org; Phone 800/872-2672.
Virtuallly every airline and pilot in the industry belong to AOPA, so they should have an answer for you.
Please contact me if you need any assistance with your travel.

Are there any state officials that specialize in this subject? I went to a riverboat casino and had trouble reaching the buttons on some of the slots. As you can probably guess, I am a paraplegic.
There are many exceptions to the ADA, and one is boats, as they are not easily retrofitted to comply like a home or business would be.
Of course, if it's Indian owned they don't have to do anything as they are (technically) a sovereign nation.
my brother is a paraplegic and has to have a special bed. do hotels accomadate for this and if so what do i have to do to aquire one.

Do a search and normally in the description of the hotel, there would be an answer to your question.. Look also to the guest reviews...

Hello, all! Today on Disabled Travelers we’re taking a little break from our whirlwind tour of accessible Asia to share a little good news closer to the “home front.” Every once in a while I like to take a day off from my wanderings, put it in “park” and check up on items of general interest for handicapped travelers everywhere – and WOW, do I have some interesting news today, so check it out! reports this newest innovation is the direct result of a lawsuit by handicapped travelers who settled with Hotels.com in 2009 after bringing the site to court for failing to guarantee wheelchair accessible reservations. It’s too bad it had to come to that, of course, but this is definite progress and will benefit everybody. It might be a game-changer and a good challenge for sites around the web that traditionally offer “some” accessibility information … Hotels.com could really make up for their mistakes by helping to set a higher standard for accessibility in the travel biz.
