Am looking for a Coach Tour company with wheelchair access, preferably a hydraulic lift, who depart from the North East of England - anyone know of any?
John Flanagan Coach Travel are a company who firmly believe that being a wheelchair owner should not prevent one from enjoying coach trips. Our ethos is summed up in our motto 'Equal Travel for All'. We specialise in accessibility and are proud of the recognition our new 'Award Winner' status implies.
All the best!

We have decided to take care of our elderly father who is wheelchair bound. He will be here next month.
I spoke to the landlord and he has no problem with him being added to the lease.
However we noticed that it would be tough to get around the house because of the stairs.
Is the landlord responsible for making this house more adaptable for wheelchairs?
Yes and no. Part of the answer will depend on your city and state, and part on what needs to be done. I would recommend talking the landlord if he is generally a good person, and a lawyer if you think you need to.
Generally, small, easy things will be your job- special hinges so the doors open wider, tools to make it easier to open faucets or pour milk, etc.
Bigger, more permanent stuff is the tricky area. Ramps generally need to be at least approved by the landlord, and often require permits to build or install.
Permanently mounted grab bars, etc. can often be negotiated- for example, you will buy and install them properly and leave them without counting as damage.
Installing a lift system or elevator would usually be the landlord's decision because of the extent of the mods needed, and he will usually request that you look into other options first.
I have to tell you that modding an older home with lots of stairs gets hard and costly quickly. A typical solution is to find the best level for him to enter as independently as possible, and make that floor his home so he does not have to negotiate the other stairs.
I've worked with many families who have had to do things like convert a main floor room to a new bedroom so a person in a chair can get into the house, access their bedroom and bathroom, etc. For some families, this meant the loss of the living room and converting the dining room to a sort of mini-Great Room for dining, TV, etc.
Be creative, open, and flexible.

im opening a coffee shop and want to know are there requirements for a door to be to allow wheelchair access
Read this..........

EDIT.............Dimensions - Doors should have a minimum clear opening width of 800mm (830mm is preferred) for a wheelchair. Where double doors are used at least one door should be a minimum of 800mm wide.
It is reported that California is considering such a move.
I hope Women's lib will not oppose this as it may cut across their moves for equality with men in all spheres
Yes because it is harder for them to walk longer distances so they should be closer to the store or buidling. I hope it does become a law.
i had seen on a home improvement show some years back where they replaced a standard threshold with a barrier free one for wheelchair access eaze...i am now in need of one myself for my home and can't find one and none of my home improvement stores even know what i am talking about..this threshold would eliminate the wooden lip so you can wheel right in...i would appreciate if anyone has any information on this..thanks
You will have to remove the existing threshold and install a low-rise threshold. The threshold is 3/8" tall and then you'll have to install a door sweep on the existing door to keep moisture out.
Good Luck!!!!

Boris Johnson blocks wheelchair access
Johnson has decided to scrap plans to install step-free access at six Tube stations. In other words, wheelchair access.
The item is buried three-quarters of the way through this story in the Evening Standard , which centres on the fare and congestion charge increases.
Although some station improvements have been delayed in the mayor's blueprint for failure, they have at least been given a date for their resumption.
Not so "step-free" access. That's it. Gone.
London Underground has a poor record on wheelchair access - partly due to the age of the system - but the Jubilee Line extension (when it works) and some other stations do have this facility.
