handicap parking access aisle/abuse?
Handicap sign.

If you want to argue the number of improper handicap placards--start another post...

This is about people WITHOUT placards who block access...and people with (appropriate placards) who park illegally--in the spots/access aisles...

People-think-learn about empathy-please...the blue striped ACCESS AISLE is for the benefit of the person using the handicap parking spot...

You are not supposed to park there-with or without a handicap parking permit...that area is for a person with a disability to have room to get in and out of the car-especially if they are using a wheelchair, walker, or just the arm of a companion....

you could be ticketed $250...even if it is on private property like an apartment complex....

this is especially annoying when there are other spaces available..

the car in question does NOT have a handicap parking placard--and is parked 1/2 on the ACCESS AISLE..

I don't want to call the police..and have you ticketed...please park appropriately from now on...

the ACCESS AISLE isn't for motorcycles either....

and its not okay to park there for just a minute or to use the placard when the handicap person isn't with you..

i am all for a registry of docs by speciality that will red flag a doc for giving a significantly high number of permits (based on his patient base--a rheumatologist would sign for more permits than an allergist)..and for police asking people that do not obviously appear to be disabled for their ID (I am one of those people) to weed out those using granny's permit..

SO this is a poll..
who UNDERSTANDS that
a blue striped access aisle is for the person who is legally parked in the handicap spot
it is not for motorcycles (or shopping carts)
you may not use granny's permit.
if you can walk in spiked heels-maybe you shouldn't be using handicapped parking-spiked heels strain teh body and heart--most people who are healthy enough to wear spiked heels don't need handicapped parking (there are probably a few exceptions)

Sometimes a person may park in a handicap spot when they are picking up a person with a handicap who is in the store...and that is okay--or the person with the handicap may remain in the store while the non handicap person returns to the car....

please indicate if you understand this--as many people don't seem to

(this info is specific to NJ-fines/other details may be different elsewhere)
there used to be an actual POLL category for questions like this--can anybody tell me what section it is under?
When a statement is made in the context of a POLL-that is allowable-

i am trying to find out how widespread the problem of handicap parking abuse is-related to ignorance..

you can go ahead and report it--i know there is nothing wrong with this-and yahoo violations is a joke--yes they will remove it, but so what--i'll have my info my that time..
that is why I wrote:
SO THIS IS A POLL

using details (a statement) to explain is okay
The poll is not primarily about who has the right to a handicap permit-

it is about the right way to use it (assuming you deserve it) and what not to do if yudon't have one...

I understand. My area takes the handicapped parking spaces very seriously, which is great. Its a metro area, so not everyone gets ticketed, but enough tickets get given for it that I rarely see people parked inappropriatly without the placards.

would it be a good Idea if they had a towns in America where only certain groups can buy houses in (ex deaf)?
6th floor wheelchair access

I am not from America But the reason I say America is because its one of the only country's big enough to do this..

I know it can be hard for people that are different or have some disability to fit in with normal people & they often like to hang around people similar to themselves,
What if they could plan little towns that you exclusively have to be part of a special group or be related to someone in that group to have a chance to live there..or work there

Some examples could be

Deaf people
People with aids
People dying of cancer
midgets.
People on wheelchairs
Gay men \Gay Woman
Burn victims

None of these groups is like this due to fault of there own (except for maybe some of the wheel people)

Because the deaf people can live normal lives & communicate through sign language

The Midgets can live like normal people cause everyones closer to there size..

They could have an entire town made specially for wheelchair access

People with Aids could have relationships with fear of spreading while doctors & scientists can test new cures on the ones that are willing ..

Gay Men & Woman can live & work in a town where no one judges there sexual orientation & they don't have to worry about incorrect gaydar signals or getting bashed be gay haters.

What would you think of this idea, It is discriminating against normal people but all of these examples have had hard times already anyway, & they still have to buy land\Houses so I'm sure
no one has any reason to be jealous of them getting these opportunity.

They actually tried to set up a "Deaf town" a while back (I think it was in South Dakota in the 1970's)... didn't work though. People are also trying to set up another one... also in SD (see link)

One of the problems is that most of the people in those groups are born to people not in those groups, and if they reproduce, there's a large chance that their children wouldn't be in that group. Plus, people do not want to only live in a homogeneous society, and do not want to abandon their families and livelihoods.

In theory it might sound good, but in practice it doesn't work out.

Does your church have a no children during the service policy?
(Untitled)

The sign said: Where Your Whole Family is Welcome!
I walked in with my 5 month old -actually, someone offered to carry her buggy inside because there were steps and no wheelchair access. A man comes up to greet me, "Suppose you're looking for somewhere to park the baby?" I smile. He continues, " The creche has different groups, I'm sure they'll help you out and she'll be fine with them, or you can wait until the worship is finished when the other kids go out". He waves his hand in general direction of 'over there through that door' and smiles back at me.
I start to 'get it', so I ask, "They don't like baby's in the service here?", "No" he replies, "Well, we don't encourage it"
"oh, I suppose I'll come another time then" I hand him back his little leaflet, and leave somewhat embarrassed. Two trains there & a 1 hour walk back to the city to get home. I felt a bit cheated, really very hurt.
Is this a typical icebreaker? Is this typical protocol? Why can't I worship God with my daughter - she's too young to go with strangers.
I mean, I'm not going to let her screa mthe house down - I'm not mindlessly selfish - if she cried, I would have left the hall.

I'm terribly sorry that happened to you and it would not happen in our church. Plenty of newborns in the crowd, although we do have a nursery and a nursing moms area where the service is viewable by television.

Frankly, you might have kept smiling and walking right past the old nosey norris--its not his church, its God's.

Why has my car been towed?
Titled: Untitled

I parked my car on a residential street in London where there are absolutely no signs displayed regarding where people can park. The first time I parked there I checked very, very thoroughly. On Thursday my car was towed, and the reason they gave when I called was that I was obstructing a pedestrian access. This 'access' is a very small dip in the pavement where there is no sign, no road markings or anything to draw attention to the fact that this is a towing zone. When I rang yesterday they told me it would be £290 to recover, and I won't have that money until Monday, when it will already be £370. I would like to know my legal rights regarding this, as all I can find refers to pavement alterations for wheelchair uses, but says nothing about the need for road markings or parking lines.

Please help as I am a very poor London student and don't think I should have to pay this based upon the circumstances of the area I parked.

Thanks for any info.

If you were blocking an access no matter how small then you are at fault and there will be little or nothing you can do about it.

There is no requirement to mark everything as there is are laws about obstructing the highway and pavements.

You don't say whether this was a private firm who have towed you or if it was an "official" tow from the police/council.

That could make a difference.

Help with percentages!! ?
Sign for wheelchair access ramp

I have below a list of totals, how will i show / work these out as percentages for a graph??

Category Actual No
Wheelchair13
Seating 2
Rail 19
Manual handling/hoist10
Transfers/mobility6
General/equipment57
Access5
Bathing/showering67
Stairs 8
Home visit2
Review3
HIS/Spec approval5
HIS/DFG sign off14
Carers ax 2

Add em all up
then divide one part of it by the sum of all of them. and multiply by 100

example:
say if the sum of all = 100
stairs pct would equal 8/100 = 0.08 X 100 = 8%

  • Launderama at Middleborough Crossing

I’ve noticed all the entry doors at Middleborough Crossing have the same exact sign. Yet here I experienced help without even asking.

The entry door is not automatic yet we didn’t need to open it for a nice employee came to open the door for us as soon as we approached.  Once inside I saw the customer service counter which is of a wheelchair height. The customer service counter has a blue sign with a wheelchair accessible symbol posted on it. Located next to this sign is another sign which states, “If you need assistance ask and the staff will assist you”. I believe they will always help for they already opened the door for me.
