My grandfather is coming to live with us for a while and i want to make things easy for him! And what can i take into consideration with regards to SAFETY when redesigning my house?

Thank You! (**,)

I have grab bars in the bathroom..toilet and shower..seat in the shower, handicap toilet, but a riser works just as well. Ramp into the house, have a carpenter make about a 4 inch platform for a comfortable chair to sit on, to make it easier for him to get in and out of..I also have a lift chair, but they are to expensive for a short time visit..your doors should be OK..one other thing raise the bed with blocks of wood that are about the same size as a brick..helps immensely..no throw rugs..lucky you to have a grandfather...and lucky him for having you..Enjoy your visit..

im tired, everytime i take a step my shins hurt like crazy. i know its not because of muscles or lack of excerise, i get plenty. i just wanna ride a wheelchair. like is there anything i can do to my spine to paralys my legs? so id have a reason to ride a wheelchair?

You don't have to be paralyzed to be able to use a wheelchair.

If you're serious and you want to use a wheelchair, go onto ebay or some other auction site. Or find another way of getting a 2nd hand wheelchair then just use it.

I would advise that you go to your doctor though. I don't know how old you are but your shin pain sounds (from the little information provided) like it could be shin splints. Basically that's when you do so much exercise while the bone is developing that you slightly damage the front of the tibia (shin bone). It will take rest, gentle exercise and you'll be back to normal in a few months. Your doctor will be able to refer you to a physiotherapist if that's what it is.

Also, if your doctor agrees that using a wheelchair is the best thing for you then they will sign the form so you can have a parking badge, which would make getting about with a wheelchair so much easier.

  • Crap Cycling & Walking in Waltham Forest: Backward London

30 Per cent of Londoners jaywalked, perhaps because the railed-off, staggered pedestrian crossings were so poorly designed. Along Regent Street, Tottenham Court Road and Oxford Street, there were 74 unnecessary footway interruptions. A lack of dropped kerbs hindered wheelchair users. The typical noise level of a main London street was 70-75 decibels – too loud to hear a normal conversation.
