Upright Wheelchair

I have to move my mother in and out of cars, and to the bathroom. She is in a wheelchair, I felt a pinch before in my lower back, not to sharp. Now my upper back thigh hurts.

Very possibly a pinched nerve in your back. The sciatic nerve runs through the spinal cord down the left leg. However, it could be more
serious.

My husband has recently come out of hospital and needs to use a wheelchair. We have a 2 year old son who likes to walk but quickly gets tired. The first outting we had was a disaster as my son refused to sit on his dads knee when he got tired and I ended up having to carry him as well as pushing my husband in the wheelchair. I wondered if you can get a child seat to attach to the back or something similar to a buggy board that my son could stand on when hes gets tired. I have looked at buggy boards and the width is fine but the fixing that clip onto the upright bars are far to narrow as the wheelchair bars are a lot chunky then those on a pram. Can you suggest anything or any website where I might be able to get something, or can you come up with something we might be able to make?

Theres a bike seat thing which clips on the side of pushchiars.

Its called the bibi rider? Or bibi bike. Works simular to a buggy board, but is used slightlyto the side so enables the person pushing to have more room.

Ive only done it like 4 times. She talks to me mean and always keep rolling over my feet!!111

She is always rolling over my toes or shell ask me to pick something up for her and roll over my finger. Well yesterday i got so mad that i tipped her chair and left her there for a couple hours to go have a smoke. When i opened the door she was screaming and crying. I felt bad and put her upright. Should this be a lesson that i keep teaching her? Like...if she keeps yelling and rolling my hand and feet should i just tip her until she learns? Should I keep tipping her until she learns?

sounds like a happy family! but that is kind of cruel to be tipping her over like that

Hi after spening all day sitting upright does anyone have difficulty lying down in bed at night because of tight muscles.

Eddie that's a very good question. People actually do become Chair shaped if they don't change position on a regular basis. Position in the chair is very important to help combat any problems. Supported and symmetrical are good words, with the bottom right to the back of the chair. Feet supported in a good position and no limbs just hanging as this may cause swelling and other problems.

They are lightly to get tight hips knees and so on. If your joints are in a constant flexed position then they will become tight, even if you quite low toned.

It's very important for people in wheel chairs to exercises those joints and limbs. So if they can put some weight through legs in standing that will help. And a program of exercises to do every day will help stop contractures, which means joints may become fixed in certain positions.

If you know anyone in this situation or you are then it's wise to look into some sort of program of movement to follow, and certainly don't be stuck in that chair all day.
