My neighbors porch lift is on it's last legs, I can repair with the parts. Needed- guide rollers, bushings and guide blocks. ANYONE knows where I can find these parts???? It's an American Stair Glide Porch Lift (they don't list parts for sale)Please, he really needs this to get out of his house, Thank you

You need to contact his local durable medical equipment provider for assistance, or even a local mobility shop can point you in the right direction. Wheelchair lifts and ramps should be installed and repaired by a licensed professional.

Cost to get a home elevator for wheelchair user?

Has anyone ever investigated the cost of a home elevator system? For example, this one:
http://www.lucanus.ca/id50.htm
We've looked at stair lifts but an out of the way elevator would be preferable. I'd like just general costs, the websites never even hint at their costs .
Thank you
Forgot to add that it's just two stops (upstairs and downstairs).

We looked into them about a year ago and the costs vary widely depending on the bells and whistles you want to add. We were not looking at free standing models like the one you have the link to, we were looking at closet enclosures. (Where a closet space is used to conceal the elevator and its mechanisms.) For a very small one large enough to accomodate a wheelchair and one person, the cheapest one we found was in the $10,000 range with installation and a 5 year warranty on bare minimum accessories. You really have to email most of the manufacturers with your specifications for them to compile an estimate ( a lot has to do with whether there is electricity to the area, the space available for the lift mechanisms, etc.) Interestingly, if you have healthcare spending account funds, the elevator is not an eligible reimbursed expense even with a doctor's statement.

where can an elderly lady get a powered wheelchair for indoor use in Scotland?

hi i am friends with an elderly lady who has had both legs amputated - she would love a power chair because her arms are now getting tired and sore - she doesn't seem to be getting help from her social worker or ot - her kitchen needs adapted too as she still has cupboards high on the wall which are of no use to her - she had to buy her own stair lift and portable ramp but she just cant afford a power chair - any ideas would be appreciated - i have emailed local councillors but nothing came back
thank you all for your speedy replies the lady in question has bought her own house and i don't know if this has prevented her from getting a grant in the past - any adaptions she has had to pay for and get someone to install it for her - thanks again
thank you all so much i wish you all lived near us - we've never had so much support - we just seem to be hitting a brick wall with every turn - she wouldn't like to be interviewed as she just accepts she won't get help - if anyone deserves a power chair this lady does - thanks again for your support

You need to badger social services, there are many things they can do to help, also enquire at CAB Citizens advice bureau. This really is a disgrace, she should NOT have to pay for all her own stuff. Does she get invalidity and mobility allowance, I`m sure she could/should. Please let us know on Y/A the outcome, we would all like to know how this pans out. Good luck.

As you are probably in the USA i can't really answer, but there should be some organization that can be of help to you, have you asked your Dr as he/she would no what help is available to you, i do understand how you must feel as i am confined to a wheelchair, and have just given up my very well adapted home to come into a nursing home, as i just couldn't cope anymore, i wish you good luck and i am sure you will find the help that you need.

Renter in bitter housing struggle: Staten Island quadriplegic faces eviction

A wealthy Staten Island builder is evicting a quadriplegic from the specially equipped townhouse his struggling family has called home for 22 years.

Jonathan Frassetti , who has been in a wheelchair since 1999, says he's behind on the rent because his cancer-stricken dad can't help him make ends meet.

"Of course, I'm not going to live for free ... but we're hurting," Frassetti, 35, told the Daily News.

Landlord Vincenzo Naso - who runs a company that has built more than 600 homes and who has donated thousands to political campaigns - says he's not being meanspirited.

"They all make promises to bring us money and they never do," said Naso's lawyer, Christopher Otterbeck , who maintains his client is owed more than $7,000.

"We have been charitable. We've tried to work with him here, but, unfortunately, my client needs the rent."

Wheelchair Stair Lifts And Other Assistive Devices Can Increase ...

For people with a disability there are many different concerns over daily tasks that others take for granted. Assistive devices such as wheelchair stair lifts make it possible to have a home that is not a single story ranch house. Increasing opportunities and choice availability to those who are wheelchair bound is more than just picking out a few assistive devices; having wheelchair stair lifts installed in a home opens worlds of possibilities to people who are having limitations set upon them at every turn.

For people who have difficulty with stairs and do not have either of the budget or the space for an elevator, wheelchair stair lifts are an option that allows them access to other floors in the house. These lifts come in a few different styles.
