Reclining Wheelchair

I'm supposed to get a hip spica body cast on soon and am told I can use a reclining wheelchair. Not sure what that is? Can you share?

You have no choice, but to use one. You won't be able to sit up at all with a spica on. A reclining wheelchair is just that. It is a wheelchair that has a back that reclines.

Does anyone know where I can find reclining wheelchair that is electric, and is covered by Medicare?

Ask Medicare where you can find one. They are very fussy about where you buy things, so it is easier to just ask them.

I recently badly broke my legs and hips and am in a bilateral long leg hip spica cast which as a bar inbetween to imoblise my hips and legs. I am not alllowed to be weight bearing and obviously the cast imoblising my hips and legs prevents a lot of mobility

I have been given a reclining wheelchair to use if I need to get about but this is incrediably awkward to get into even with help and it hurts a lot to move

Should I use the wheelchair still or do you think it would be possible to use crutches?

Very sorry about your injuries. I would forget crutches mostly because your cast is non-weight bearing, but also you could lose balance very easily. And if you experience pain in the wheeelie, best to not use it either because the pain indicates pressure on the fracture areas. I understand your situation I was casted both legs toes to chest for two months and was on my back with legs suspended on cables. Good luck for a speedy recovery.
