my quickie rhythm wheelchair just broke down. i was going up a slope to get to house and it gave out?
Me mirror

i just need to know what part gave out possibly

It is most likely the circuit breaker on the front bottom right of the chair.
It is visible and usually has a (70) on it. Press it and it will reset your breaker. otherwise check your batteries or ? motor controller connections.

I have 3 rhythms ... give me a call 1-510-932-3255

How do I get my wheelchair in and out of my car by myself?
camping on James Island, SC

First time car owner and I'm handicap in a wheelchair. I don't have a chair topper and I own a sedan. My chair is a manual of the quickie brand and the back folds and the back wheels come off. I'm trying to figure out a way to get my chair in and out of my car without scratching both the chair and the car in the process. Looking for fellow disabled people to help me out here.

I too am in a wheelchair. (22+ yrs) I am very independent. I used to drive a Mustang GT and was able to load my chair, etc on my own. I now own a Monte Carlo and have to use a different technique. Both of which I'll do my best to explain.

FIRST, I bought a bath rug (rubber backed to prevent the rug from slipping) and lay it to the left of my seat (to protect the car from scratches and dings) NOTE: I load my chair from transferring to the drivers seat with both feet on the ground. (facing OUT)
For my Mustang, I had a Quickie. I took the wheels and the cushion off, and put them on the back seat. then, with my wheelchair folded, I was able to put the chair on the floor directly behind my (driver's) seat.
Loading my Rigid wheelchair into my Monte: Transfer to driver's seat, place rug on "rocker panel" (next to seat), take wheels and cushion off, put on floor behind seat OR on the back seat. Fold the back of my chair down, then I Tilt my steering wheel all the way DOWN, (to hold my legs in place). I then Lay my driver seat all the way back (recline) NOTE: Passenger seat is also tilted back to allow for maneuvering) I then reach across myself, pull my chair up against the rug, and (bracing it against the rug/rocker panel) I lift my chair, (with both arms)across my body and place it on the front passenger seat. (Luckily I am a small girl) I also keep a beach towel on the passenger seat for protection. I REALLY hope this helps!!! I hope I've explained it without it sounding too confusing!!! INDEPENDENCE is SOOOOOO IMPORTANT!

Oh! FYI! GPS / HAND DRIVING CONTROLS WARNING!!!
IF you use a GPS, and hand controls/ steering knob, etc, BE CAREFUL NOT to suction cup the GPS to the windshield! Just last monday, I was going around an "S" bend, my GSP fell off the windshield, the cord got caught on the spinner knob, and I could not steer my way thru the remainder of the "S" bend. I ended up in the woods, JUST missing a telephone pole! Devine Intervention had it so that my car only has a FEW scratches! NO DENTS!

I hope this helps! Would LOVE to know how you make out!

Advice for backpacker in a wheelchair? Also, how do I attach a rolling suitcase to my chair?
Wheeling in Wellington 9

I've made plans to travel and am in a wheelchair. I've thought about how to carry luggage with me if I'm ever by myself and I've come up with a flimsy way of attatching a rolling suit case to the back of my chair with bungee cord and ties. My chair is similar to this: http://www.quickie-wheelchairs.com/produ ct/images/id/2411?imageID=2224

It has curved bars underneath at the back where I was applying the bungee cords. My question is are there better ways of attaching a rolling suitcase to the back of a chair, so it can be attached and unattached quickly, and so that the chair can still be folded when the suitcase is unattached (so nothing permanent like a metal bar mounted on the back), and also something sturdy so the suitcase doesn't hang to low and drag on the ground.

In addition, if you've carried luggage and are in a wheelchair, what other methods did you use or advice can you offer?
I'm not worried about the airport. I can handle my bags there. I'll be backpacking at certain points along the street. Those are the points I will need to consider.
Thanks Willeke. I have also posted this question elswhere already. I just put it here in the hopes of receiving a variety of answers.

I do not use a wheelchair, but I have traveled on a recumbent trike, like this: http://www.bicycleman.com/recumbents/tri kes/sun/sun-ez-3-USX-recumbent-trike.htm
I found that soft cases attached to the frame, behind the seat, worked good. I did use a sturdy sleepingbag roll, as well as shopping bags. And I used bungy cords, in a relative small size, designed for use on bikes.

When you have a case on its own wheels you either need it to have a turning point where you connect it, so it can follow behind you as it would behind a person walking, or it needs to have wheels that can handle sideways movements.

If you fix your case which has only forward/backward motions, you restrict the movements of your chair to those same.

To advice you how to attach the luggage we would need better photos of the back of the chair, the one you linked to is to much just from the front.

I also think that you will get a much better answer on a forum where many wheelchair users go, (like a patient forum for people with MS or an other site where you find people who use wheelchairs all the time,) or maybe on a site where bicycle people talk about unusual solutions, like http://www.bikeforums.net/ although I have never been able to register there. The recumbent or sell build parts of that forum seem to have people that are flexible enough to help you build a solution.

IHAVE a child who uses a wheelchair, who has spina bifida, and is a paraplegic, but it was not until I needed a wheelchair myself that I understood what it meant. I had a bad reaction to Lipitor (the rare but serious muscle wasting condition which is spoken in the ads.) After leaving the hospital I needed help for everything, including turning in bed. I learned what it really means to have a disability. It took a good 6-7 months of wheelchair use before I can walk without falling down several times a day, now my son, Jay, is his custom Quickie wheelchair, shower and a wheelchair lightweight wheelchair travel. He for when you want to play sports (especially wheelchair racing) and is already talking...
