What type of cushion is best fo relieving pressure from sitting in a wheel chair?

I am in a wheel chair. I cannot walk at all. Sometimes my bottom gets so sore I could cry. I have heard about a jell cushion to sit on. Sre there any others?

Please Please do not buy the donut cushion. I am sure it was meant well but these can cause major pressure sores to people in wheel chairs or who have to sit for extended periods. I have spent years caring for people with massive pressure sores that can take months to years to heal. The edge of the hole puts pressure on the skin. These are no longer allowed in any health facilities in australia The Gel cushion or a pressure one from a medical store would be best. Ask an Occupational Therapist.

Please do not be offended but extra weight or even too thin a person can increase pain from the pressure of sitting.

my aunt has a bed sore on her right butt cheek. are donut shaped cushions ok to relieve the pressure?

we already turn her often. are there better ways to relieve the pressure in this specific area.

I don't recommend donut pillows for people who has bed sores especially on the buttock area. The reason is when they sit on it, yes there is no pressure on the wound are but what happens is the donut pillow traps the blood and other pillows within then boundaries of the pillows causing the area to swell and stretch the skin around the wound causing posible shearing of the tissues. Best thing to do is have MD check what stage the pressure sore it, MD would prescribe wound treatment. Also positiong in bed is really important, turning every 2 hrs for pressure relief. It's advisable that people with sores on bottom limit sitting up up to 2 hrs until wound closes. Hope this helps.

Does any one know about an ailment causing pressure build up in head and a possible cure?

My spouse is ailing for many years in spite of visiting several doctors. The problem is when the patient lies down to sleep there is a gradual (takes about 10 minutes) internal pressure build up that hurts in the head at the point of contact with the pillow. This compels the patient to shift the head to a different position. Once the head position is shifted the hurt and pressure is relieved for some time and after a while the pressure build up and the hurt starts at the new point of contact with the pillow. This cycle of pressure build up at continually changing points of contact with the pillow prevents the patient from naturally sleeping most portion of the night. This pressure build up is not present when the patient sits up and rests the head against a cushion or while standing. Obviously the patient cannot sleep in these positions. Several MRIs of the head & neck are taken. They have not revealed any abnormality. The frustrating thing is that none of the doctors including a few neurology specialists have not heard of such symptoms and as such have not been able to prescribe a cure. Some one prescribed sleeping tablets Clozopan which gives some sleep of 3-4 hours during night but causes the person to be uncomfortably drowsy through the day! Unfortunately, this medication has listed a whole lot of side effects that is causing anxiety about continuous use. Can some one please help with a medical name for this ailment and a possible cure even if it is an alternative medicine? Thank you very very much for a serious answer.

That sounds miserable!!!!

Makes me think of restless leg syndrome but in the head! However I don't think that applies although I wonder if there is any similar underlying pathology there.

Alsocould there be any sorrt of cerebralspinal fluid leakage happening??? I would guess they would have seeen that happening or felt that or something....

I wonder if its a perception of fluid pressure or if there is actual pressure in the head.....

There is this show on television called Mystery Diagnosis where ppl have ailments that no one could diagnose and finally someone figures it out.. Im thinking it might be worth writing them!!!! It comes on DIscovery Health if yoiu're not familar with the show.... I say contact them!!!

I wish I had a better idea for you!!

Have they done a sleep study .... to try and understand more? Im sure they have....

I wouild say to try consulting a Physiatrist..... that isn't a psychiatist... physicatrists specialist in musckuloskeletal issues and maybe they can help. Another option Im thinking of is a good Osteopath. One who really does practice both sides of medicine. They take a real hollistic approach to treatment, try to use a more natural appoach but do have a medical degree. Some D.O (Doctors of Osteoopathy) are more like any other doctor but some places arent.

There is a place in San Diego called The Osteopathic center for children and they tread adults as well. They treat peole with all kinds of different, so called hopeless cases too. Im thinking you can look for information from them and see if they have some contacts in your area for someone that can work with your husband...

Anyways, good fortune,,,

Foot "pops" on the ball of the foot, under the small toes?

I have been having trouble, on and off, with my left foot. I have a job that requires a lot of standing and walking. It feels like pressure building in the ball of my foot, and is extremely painful, causing me to limp at times. My foot will "pop' to relieve some of the pressure. Any idea what is causing this? Different shoes affect the severity of the pain. I have also tried cushioned shoe inserts, and the seemed to make it worse.

massage it frequently. go to a collage and they will do it cheap! also soak your feet in epsom salt.

Dancer's question????????????????

Ever since I got lambs wool toe pads and Capezio pointe shoes, I've been getting nasty bloody blisters. Usually I wear Grishko pointe shoes and gel and cloth toe pads. I was thinking to solve the problem I could put the cloth toe pads inside of the lambs wool to provide more cushion. (I can't wear gel toe pads anymore bc I can't feel the ground with my toes.) What else can I do?

2. I also have a private lesson tomorrow and these blisters are very painful. They're the size of pennies almost and they bled through my ballet shoes. What can I do to relieve pain in such little time?
3. I bruised the nuckle of my big toe and kills me if I put pressure on it. What can I do to cure it?

1.) First of all : When you get a chance get fitted for a different size shoe or different brand shoe if they don't break in soon ( it does take a couple wears to break in) get an appt. w/ someone that knows pointe shoes .
2.) soak your feet tonight in warm water and Epsom Salts ( it will dry up the blisters~ don't pop them).
3.) Buy "Moleskin" in foot sections @ drug stores and cut pieces to fit to the areas that rub to apply to your feet. (and/or) "SecondSkin"
4.) Bring Bactene spray (foot sections @ drug stores) it's an antiseptic and for pain spray.
***5.) Moleskin really helps until break ins
