Have you ever been assaulted by a person in a wheelchair?

One purposely rode her wheels across my toes. And she's quite a fat wheelchair-person. Aren't disabled people supposed to be polite in the same way that ugly people need personalities to survive in society? I mean, I like disabled people, but only the happy non-violent ones.

YES YES YES.
Just thinking about it makes me want to push him down the stairs.
I was in college and walking through a parking lot to get into a restaurant. A truck was heading for me and I thought 'He's going to slow down..it's a parking lot..I'm a human..he can't just hit me'. Anyhow..I basically had to throw myself out of the way or I would have been mowed over. I'm not talking..just hurry a bit..I mean I did the long jump and Harrison Ford would have been proud of me. As the truck was bearing down on me I saw a 'handicapped' sign on his rear-view mirror AND there was a wheelchair in the back.
A couple months ago...I was driving through town and stopped at a four way stop. THEN I proceeded through the intersection. Some retard blows the stopsign completely and freaks out by honking at ME. I pointed at the four way stop sign, honked and faked that I was going to hit him. HE HAD A WHEELCHAIR IN THE BACK. I WISH I JUST HIT HIM. IT WOULD HAVE BEEN HIS FAULT ANYWAY. Then I would have taught him a lesson and maybe all the wheelchair truck drivers would stay off my back.

Is it possible for a person in a wheelchair to defend our country in a war?

Is it possible for a wheelchair bound person to defend himself and his country in a war on america? If not, why not. If so, what would he need?

Sorry state that people don't know you are referring to President Franklin Roosevelt..

How does a wheelchair-bound person get onto a public toilet in a handicapped stall without injury?

My brother told me the other day that he had been in a public bathroom when a wheelchair-bound person come in to use the handicapped stall. He didn't want to offend the man, but was insanely curious how it was possible to get from a wheelchair to the toilet itself without being some crazy double-jointed left handed bodybuilder. In addition, when I looked at the bars and the space for the handicapped stall at my work the next day, I couldn't really figure it out either! Help assuage our combined curiousity?

#1 The person is not bound to the wheelchair. If they were they definitely could not use the toilet. They are a wheelchair user.

#2 A proper accessible stall has space to the right or left of the toilet to transfer to the right or left. Some people use sliding boards. They slide themselves over onto the toilet. Some can manage without a transfer board.

#3 A narrow accessible stall without the space to the right or left is more difficult. There are a few ways to do it. You can transfer onto the toilet seat sideways and then turn your body. Some can stand when they hold onto the grab bars just long enough to transfer. Some can take a few steps - and then they might just get up and use the toilet.

Grab bars are essential - to use for balance and to pull yourself.

Having the toilet paper and other recepticles placed in the right places are also essential. I have been injured several times in an accessible stall and it has always been from the same thing - the metal boxes they attach to the walls for "sanitary" products. I have cut myself on the sharp corners of them more than once.

A word about accessible stall etiquette. If there is an another stall to use - use it. If it is the only one available - go ahead - unless there is a chair user waiting. The chair user gets to go to the accessible stall first as soon as it becomes available.

Can a person riding a wheelchair at a fast pace be consider jogging?

I was just wondering could a wheelchair bound person ridding his wheelchair at a certain pace be considered jogging, and would it have the same affect as it would on an able bodied person jogging?

No, jogging requires leg work. Though it's similar in terms of workout benefits, only thing is riding a wheelchair quickly would work the upper body while running/jogging works out the entire body because all muscle groups are working together.
basically:
wheelchair: upper body workout
Jogging/running: full body workout (although there's more impact on certain areas than others)

Who is liable if you were to get hit by a person riding a power wheelchair?

I have nothing against people in wheelchairs. But sometimes they will ride them at a high rate of speed in a store. My question is if a person is run into and hurt by a guy going fast in the high speed wheelchair who is liable? The person in the wheelchair or the the store?

If someone hurts you - with a car, wheelchair, or fist - they are liable.

Being in a wheelchair doesn't exactly excuse one from liability.

  • Blind And Behind The Wheel « Looking At My World

I wonder at the world sometimes. When I was a kid, my folks taught me to take extra care if I happened to see a disabled person. A wheelchair, a white cane, or a guide dog were dead giveaways. Don’t stare, they told me. Don’t be mean. Go out of your way to make sure a blind person can get past because they can’t see you. Simple. turns red, then go through before drivers on my left and right have time to accelerate. This one day I had just missed my turn and was waiting patiently for the next cycle when I noticed two women at the corner on my left. One was carrying a white cane. The other stood near her, chatting. The two obviously knew each other. I saw the cane and planned...
