Do they have wheelchair hurdles in the paralympics?
Cutting Edge 2012 - Behind Basketball

If they do then how does it work? I would've thought they'd have hurdles.

If you've ever have the opportunity to attend a Para Olympic meet you'd be amazed what these athletes can do in their sprints/LDR in wheelchairs. The racing chair is expensive that these athletes use. It's amazing their upper arm strength and how fast they can get the chairs moving, and yes they do have crashes. Just try to figure out who was at fault, it's hard.
Some throwers also are strapped into chairs for shot put. As for javelin, standing/run up stance is used by some athletes.
Field implements are inspected for the correct weight & densty and must conform to the rules of play.
Blind runners are led by a sighted runner (wears a vest indicating he's the helper) by a rope or other suitable lead, however the blind runnner must finish first.
No there aren't any hurdles for these athletes.

Is this disability discrimination? Should Y!A staff get chopped off at the knees and be made to spend their lives in wheelchairs? Or is that even too good for them? Amputated below the neck perhaps?

The names 'Obama' and 'Palin' are not there either.

    History of the Paralympics
    Wheelchair Games

The Paralympics wheelchair games are the second largest sporting event in the world next to the Olympics. The first Paralympics can be traced back to the period following World War II, when an English doctor named Sir Ludwig Guttman advocated the use of sports as therapy for those who were wounded and injured in the war.

Coinciding with the London Olympics of 1948, Guttman organized a sports competition for World War II veterans with spinal cord injuries.

Over the next several years, other spinal injury units throughout England borrowed Guttman’s idea and organized sporting competitions.

Guttman dreamed of organizing a worldwide athletic competition for wheelchair athletes. In 1960, Guttman brought 400 wheelchair athletes from 23 countries to compete in wheelchair games in Rome to coincide with the Rome Olympics. The Parallel Olympics, or Paralympics, were born.
