I live in melbourne Australia, does anyone know where i can get a electric wheelchair, I currently have one but am looking for another to use as a backup as it is a huge in convenience for me when the one i'm using now breaks down.
I phoned the place that funded my wheelchair if they could provide me with a backup but there policy is only one wheelchair per person.
Does anyone have any suggestions, I need my independence AND don't want to be in a position where i have to be without my wheelchair. Pls help.
I did a lot of research for my diabetic boss but we live here in california - the best prices I can find was in ebay and if you need spare parts there is Value Mobility call FRANK 1-800 717 1252 - he delivers and you get a live person - very nice guy and answers all your questions and dependable in shipping item to you. As for the motorized wheelchair your biggest cost will be shipping and handling if you buy out of australia - can cost you as much as $900 to $1200 for S/H if you cannot find a local in australia because of packaging and weight. You can get good prices and mobility with Jazzy 600 by Pride, you can buy used one for $1200 to $2400 brand new cost $3700up. My boss had an old Jazzy 1100 and this model is still good mobility - can find used one for as low as $400 - $600.

Is it just me or does it seem that most motorised wheelchair users are just fat? I think these specialist chairs should go to genuinely disabled people. What are your views?
Motorised wheelchairs and mobility scooters are used as a replacement for public transport! People who are overweight do tend to use them as do elderly people. We know quite a few disabled people and none of them have one of these. Maybe people who can walk choose not to and those of us who have mobility problems fight to stay mobile as long as possible! The worst offenders for holding up traffic are the people on the scooters, merrily toodling along the road unaware that there's a 7 mile tailback behind them! It is possible to get one of these machines on the NHS but the criteria that has to be met first before you are classed as roadworthy is ridiculous because if someone purchases one themselves they don't have to be tested. Everyone, regardless of how you get one should have to pass a test. Can you imagine it......joy riding pensioners without licences burning up our streets and clogging the prison system for non-payment of fines!

So her mum, Jo, 42, is trying to raise £5,000 to buy a powered wheelchair which will give her more independence and a better quality of life.
She will also be able to get more involved in the sports that she loves.
A host of fundraising events have been organised.
