I need to find out more information on purchasing a wheelchair lift for my minivan. I have a handicapped 5 year old daughter and I know nothing about wheelchair lifts, the cost etc. I need something that I can use a long time (as she grows, the wheelchair will also). Please give me a good local (Portland OR) resource, information, or just your experience/knowledge on the subject.

#3 What is the range in cost?
Hello, in my experience the lift depends on the make/model of the minivan and the model of the wheelchair. There are an assortment of lifts out there as you might have noticed and most places have them in stock and ready to ship. For a lift that will be able to accommodate a growing child you're probably looking at around $1000+ installation. I pulled the pricing information from: http://www.discountramps.com/wheelchair_ lift_page.htm . On a side note those lifts (the Harmar) come with 3 year manufacturer warranty which is longer than most. Also, here is a little more helpful information about those lifts: http://www.discountramps.com/articles/re quirements-harmar-lifts.htm . I hope this helps you on your mission to find the best wheelchair lift for your daughter. :)

I have a daughter with cerebral palsy who is in a wheelchair, right now she is small enough that I can pick her up and carry her easily, but in the future I will need a van with a lift or ramp. I have only seen them with lowered floors and that would not work out where I live. I am on a private dirt road, very bumpy and I know it would 'bottom out" and scrape a lot because the car I had a few years ago did. Are there any with a raised roof instead of a lowered floor?
I used to drive a Ford Econoline for a flower wholesaler that had a raised roof. It was like a plastic cap that they had permanently attached to the top after cutting the roof out. It had a standard floor, and I had climbed up a couple curbs with it rather easily. It did not have a wheelchair lift but I have seen vans that were practically the same thing with a lift installed. Even with the standard floor there was still plenty of headroom.
Want upscale vehicle but am in wheelchair. Need a ramp or lift in order to get into car. Are there any other cars that can be be converted? I presently have a minivan which I dislike.
if you are totally wheelchair bound, then you're pretty much stuck with the van-style vehicles... you need something with a flat floor that will allow you to roll into position behind the wheel.
You could go upscale with a newer custom van...

I recently got married, and my wife is in a wheelchair. She cannot transfer into a car, so she has a Chevy van with an aftermarket wheelchair lift installed. Frankly, neither the van nor the lift are in great shap. In fact, I’ve been told that her lift – a Ricon – is a bottom-of-the-barrel brand.
Obviously, when the time comes to replace the vehicle and/or lift, it’s going to be a major expenditure. So that I can start planning for it, how much does an aftermarket lift usually cost, what is a good brand/model to get, and what factors should I consider in deciding which one to get?
Also, any experience on which vans might be better than others for installing...
