My brother is thinking of buying a medical supply business (wheelchairs, medical equipment, etc.) The vast majority of revenue comes through Medicare reimbursement. I'm concerned about the potential that much of their reported revenue is due to fraud. I don't necessarily have a basis for this but just want to make sure. Anyone know where my brother can go to confirm that this audit happened. I don't want to trust any documentation provided by the current owners.
Thanks.
As far as DME companies are concerned, MEDICARE is very much on top of claims submitted to them. While it is common for DME companies to submit claims for products that were never provided to the patient Medicare is cracking down on that so I'm sure the audit took place. Seach CMS on google and I'm sure you will find some dept. to call to verify.

Dear All,
Please help. After a C-spine surgery, my dad became very illed and need home care. I need to buy a electric bed ( hospital bed) and a good wheelchair for him. All I found are websites, which I wish to visit the real store before I make my purchase.
I did some research. Still not finding any large medical supply stores carry electric beds and wheelchairs. If anyone of you know, please kindly give me some directions. Prefer cities: San Francisco, Palo Alto, Mt View, Santa Clara, San Jose, Fremont, Milpitas or somewhere not too far from these cities!
Thanks a lot!
Thanks to misskatp!!
IT happened too fast so we didn't know what to do as of now. He was sent to emegerncy room couple weeks ago and had his surgeries done afterwards. He is retired so he doesn't have income. And he owns one small townhouse so we were told social service will not kick in. We are expecting a big bill from our PPO insurance company and I am trying to collect more source for his future needs. If anyone one has idea about what to apply or where to get help, please tell me. Thanks a million!
Honey,
Look in your local phone book under these sources: Disability Services...Home Health Agencies....Social Services...local Health Department...call your local Hospital....Grogan's Health/Medical Supply....Social Security office....or call 411 and ask the operator to help you locate what you need. And, if I may, I am wondering why your dad isn't on Disability....they will help you pay for all these things and make sure your dad has a monthly income.....Please, if you need more help, let me know...
Sincerely, Katherine
A friend of mine got this chair for me at an auction and the footrests were missing. This particular chair normally comes with the footrests so I'm having a hard time finding anywhere on-line that sells replacement footrests. I do have a local medical supply store trying to look for me as well. I would greatly appreciate any suggestions! Thanks
I think you can get the answer at the site below. The second link has some generic models.

I know I'm bugging but I was training for a walk that is happening this weekend, I broke my foot 4 weeks ago and I really want to do this walk. The regular lightweight wheelchair is not going to cut it, it is too slow and too heavy...pllllleeease help me
The kind of wheelchair you're talking about costs THOUSANDS of dollars. Medical supply shops are not going to stock them for rent. Also, they need to be adjusted very specifically for the user, or their light weight can turn into a hazard (ever tipped out the back of a wheelchair??).
I'm sorry about your injury, but I don't see renting a chair as the solution.
I need the footrests to extend up, as to hold my cast. I've already tried some drugstores, and some medical supply places, but I want to know if anyone knows of a specfic website (or supply place) that is good at getting one.
call your local united way and ask aout a disability resources cntr in your area which may loan these

Sporty wheelchair? - ALS/MND Support Group Forums
The trails are dirt in some places, and can be a bit rocky and bumpy. Any ideas on the wheelchair that can a) move fast, and b) handle that kind of terrain? I'm imagining something somewhat like those baby strollers that people push when they run - but a much bigger version. Also, what's the best way to check with our health care to see if any of it is covered? My wife has been looking for exactly the same thing. That's a great idea for your mom. I was a runner before and used to love to run on the dirt trails near our house. I really miss it, and she would like to take me out on those trails. It is not super rugged terrain but I think a regular wheelchair would be too bouncy. Online I have found...
