When using a manual wheelchair, how does the user effect turns to the left or to the right?

Are there any websites that cover learning how to use a manual wheelchair -- especially this aspect of getting around?

The user of a manual wheelchair propels it by moving the wheels. So, to go to the left, turning the right wheel while holding the left wheel still will turn you to the left.

Edit to add: you can also turn the left wheel backwards, helps turn the wheelchair to the left.

I hope that makes sense.

PS: I'm really cheap, i dont need it to be in good condition. I just need it for a short part in a film, and it does not need to go fat or anything, and it doesnt need to be very durable.

Curt, ask at the hospital, there may be a place that has loners for you to use. That's where I got my wheel chair when I broke my ankle and I had free use of it for over 3 months.

Ioften go to beaches with friends but they are always having to pull the chair through the sand...I kno they make those chair for sand but it just ends up being a bigger pain...does anyone have any ideas on modifications that can be made to the chair so it will roll on sand or have you ever heard of anything being done to a normal manual chair to make it go on sand. any information is appreciated.

I want to convert a manual wheel chair into a motorized one because it could be s cheaper than buying one.Does anyone else think so?If so, do u know where I can buy the conversion kit.I live in USA, but the kit is meant for someone overseas

I toy with wheelchair motors and controllers in my robotic hobby.
The parts are cheap enough because there is an abundance of them.What happens is the insurance company [usually Medicare] will buy the power chair for someone who may never even use it. Then the person dies and the heirs want to sell it but can't get much for it because anyone that wants one will also go through insurance.So,that leaves a supply of new units for sale cheap on Ebay. That's probably the best way to get a power chair,at least if you can wait for one nearby to avoid shipping charges.
