Anyone know where I can get a manual chair like the A-4 Ultra Lightweight Wheelchair by invacare cheap?
(Untitled)

Medicare will not pay for any chair because I can walk with forearm crutches ( even if Im falling down ), because they say getting around the home is important, being outside it is not. My chair is a peice of crap and hard to propel. Thanks for any help.

You want a high-end semi-sports chair cheap? You can get lightweight chairs like the Invacare Tracer SX5 for about $200 new, and they only weight about 8 pounds more than the A-4.

The thing about sports chairs is that the chamfered tires make it harder to get around in a house, and they are hard to modify or fit to your needs. The seating is also not really comfortable for long-term use for most people, the tiny front casters hang up on cracks in the sidewalk and sink in soft soil, etc.

I know these are popular right now, but I also know a lot of users who fought for them to be their main chair and now regret it.

If your chair does not propel well, it is probably more the bearings than the weight- you may want to check them out. You do not 'feel' the weight difference between a lightweight and an ultra-lightweight much in daily use unless you are doing a lot of sudden accelerations or hard turns- like in sports.

Can a lightweight (canvas type) "portable"/foldable wheelchair be used full time? Pros and cons?
(Untitled)

Instead of buying 2 (one heavy one and one light one for outings), what are your thoughts about buying just one light one? The wheelchair would be for a sr citizen having difficulties walking. Thanks.

Full-time means different things to different people. Can they manage holding onto furniture at home? Is most of the use going to be inside stores/malls/church, or on even pavement (like parking lots.) Than the lightweight one would be OK.

But if full-time you mean all day long at home and on grass or dirt or rough sidewalks - than no. Lightweight chairs do not provide good support for a person to sit in it more than a few hours at a time and they are not designed for rougher terrains.

Where can I rent a transport wheelchair in northern va?
Aluminum Lightweight Transport Wheelchair

My mom has cancer and is undergoing chemotherapy which has made her week and tired. We are going to her granddaughters college graduation in a week and I'm looking for a lightweight portable wheelchair.

You can check in the yellow pages under medical equipment. They often rent equipment. Also, check with local churches or veterans groups as they often have them to borrow.
You could also try the college itself- you never know what they might have in their health center!!!

I am looking for a material which will support weight and can be used as a lightweight transfer board?
Jumpin' Joe PB160022

I have no leggs and am in a wheelchair. I want to make a transfer board so I can move from chair to bed or chair to carseat. It must be lightweight and be able to be made to be compact. The legnth would have to be 1M X 300 CM but must be able to be shortened for ease of use. Dose anyone know where I can have one of these boards made??

Medical supply stores or physical therapists can help ya out. Insurance will usually pay for it if there is a medical necessity. Sounds like it is. Good luck.

  • Freemode Lightweight Wheelchair Made of Fiberglass | Future Technology

‘Freemode’ the new chair design by John Dyson, has been designed with the motto of helping the people with disabilities to gain more freedom and personal space. The chair with its innovative storage/collapsibility can be used both for personal and as well as hospital. It is easy to use and highly functional thus for collapsing the chair the necessity of usage of hands is not there. Also the base material used is that of fiber glass as the chair is exposed to different environments like shower and toilet functions which involve water. Thus this is a practical solution for the physically challenged.
