remove mold from a foam couch cushion?

My daughter had a accident (pee) and it went through the cover and soaked the foam cushion. I put the cushion in the screened in porch to dry and air out but it rained and now mold has started to grow. How can I remove the mold. It is way too expensive to replace the cushion and very hard to find the right firmness. Will vinegar work?


Spray the foam with a mild mixture of bleach and water (10% bleach, if you want exact numbers). The bleach water should kill the roots of the mold. Just be sure to let the foam dry off in a dry place so that new mold doesn't form. Good luck!

Replace foam cushion when reupholstering chairs?

I am reupholstering some kitchen chairs. I bought them new a few years ago, but the fabric was an off-white. You can imagine how they look now.

I've purchased new fabric, and was wondering whether it is necessary to buy new foam for the cushions. I've watched a few DIY videos online and some people cover tight over the old cloth.

I don't plan on doing that, but not everyone replaces the cushions. Are there any guidelines I should be familiar with?


It's really a judgment call. If the cushion is fairly clean and comfortable, why bother?

Just wondering what is the best way to get urine smell our of foam cushions. I washed the cover but the foam still stinks. Also, how do you get the smell out of a mattress.. thanks
