Practical Exercise For Wheelchair Bound To Help In Weight Loss?

HI! I'M NEW TO THIS WHOLE COMPUTER STUFF. SO I HOPE I CAN FIND MY WAY BACK HERE TO CHECK OUT SOME REPLYS. I AM A 50+ YR. OLD WOMAN IN A CHAIR WHO HAS GAINED SO MUCH WEIGHT SINCE BECOMING DISABLED. I'M LOOKING FOR SOME IDEAS ON STRENGTH EXERCISES AND DIET FOR SOMEONE WHO CAN NO LONGER WALK AND THERE FOR MY CALORIE USE HAS DROPPED DRASTICALLY. I NEED TO REV UP MY METABOLISM WITHOUT STRESS TO MY KNEE, ANKLE AND SPINE. I HAVE DEGENERATIVE DISC AND JOINT DISEASE

Have you talked to your doctor? With your condition, I wouldn't rely on what others here have to say. Your doctor would know what is best for you, and can possibly recommend a personal trainer in your area that specializes in this kind of training.

Unless you are on a special diet for your condition, you can start by eating right. Eat plenty of proteins and good carbs, and cut out the fatty foods and refined sugars from your diet. Keep track of everything you eat, and cut back from there. Instead of eating 3 meals a day, try to eat 5 to 6 smaller meals. Don't eat until your full, just eat enough so your no longer hungry. And drink lots of water.

One other note to tell you: Typing in all caps on the Internet is the equivalent to shouting, and some people may get offended by it.

What will cardio exercise do for a wheelchair bound person?

I’m 19 years old and I have disease called Spin bifida. My question is ff I wheel around my block every other day for 30 minutes. What affects should I expect. Will I lose body fat in my upper body or will just lose weight. I also lift weight every other day.

you will lose weight, gain muscle, increase your lung capacity and increase your heart health.

Need exercises for wheelchair bound person?

Person is wheel chair bound because of bad knees. Can walk but not stand for very long. Need to exercise arms, legs and especially abs.

First of all, Props to you for seeking to stay fit.

The best option I would say is "Elastic Bands". The kind that you see where people are standing on the little boards and doing curls and sqauts. Well, likewise, if you got those, they would be a great benefit.

for your abs, you would secure them to the handles on the back of the chair, the more bands would equal more weight/resistance, and then pull forward -- bending at the waist. This will work your midsection. reverse that action and lock them around the foot rest to work your back.

for your arms you would secure them at various points around the chair or from a door to simulate curls and lat pulls and everything you can imagine, just see what the pulling point is for the weighted exercise and then mimick that with the bands.

same with your legs, although working out in a pool would let your legs get a workout without putting pressure on the knees... good luck!

you guys could go canoe some where and have him/her row it a little. that helps their upper body. or you could check out these websites--- it's about exercising them without like making it something bad and not fun. Also the one from amazon has like a book that originally costed like thirty dollars but if you buy it used it's 17 dollars. (!)
