Can I put a battery operated radio on my electric wheelchair, so I can extend a speaker that is electric?
Electric Radio Flyer

the extended speaker is electric and i have to wire it in my wheelchair batteries, in other words I want to hear my surrounding without the headphones in my ears all the time

Most power wheelchairs work on 2 12vdc deep-cycle batteries, and often have a 'tap' so you can hook up accessories.

The thing to remember is that cars recharge the batteries in use, You will be draining the batteries when you listen- so you will be sacrificing range of mobility for music when you could do the music part with a few rechargeable D's or something.

If you have a headrest, you can rig a pair of small powered speakers (like computer speakers) on the headrest to help create a 'bubble' of sound for your pleasure, all powered off a few cheap batteries. A rig like this would cost a lot less as well.

Electric Wheelchair and Power wheelchair Batteries

Frequently asked questions with your power wheelchair and electric scooter battery.

We have a Jet 7 electric wheelchair that has set for a couple of years. After charging the battery it still?

won't move. Any ideas? Probably the batteries have gone bad?

wet cell batteries (like car batteries) are not good after 4 - 8 months not being used....the battery acid is sulphuric acid, and the sulphur comes out of it, leaving only water. The sulphur sticking to the plates stops the battery working even if you pt in new acid.
Get a new battery. If a standard car one fits, you buy it ready charged.
CHeck all the wires and cables are clean and not corroded Wash off corrosion with steel wooll and a mixture of 1 big spoon Soda bicarbonate in a cup of water - wear gloves as the corrosion can sting, (Soda Bicarb is also called baking soda and is about $2 in the supermarket. It neturalises the acid.)

Is there a charge for an Electric wheelchair and can they go on a plane?

My wife uses a battery powered chair. and would like to take trips. How do airlines handle this problem?

Call the airline and ask if the battery that your chair operates on is FAA approved. If so, you will be able to planeside check the electric chair on the jet bridge. If your wife is unable to walk by herself, the airline will provide someone to help your wife to board the aircraft with a wheelchair that can fit down the aircraft aisle. There is no fee to check your chair as you are not able to bring it in the cabin of the aircraft. Once you land your wife's chair will meet her once she gets off the aircraft on the jetbridge. Just make sure the airline you are taking is aware so they are able to plan ahead of time and it will save you time as well!

Hope this helps!

How realistic is it to want to build an electric bicycle??

ok, i got an idea to put a skillsaw motor on a bicycle and use lithium batteries off an electric wheelchair. you guys think it'll work?? any advice or cautions??

You can simply buy an electric bicycle conversion kit, which is basically just an electric motor you attach to your bicycle. There are many available, and they've been specifically designed for that purpose. Splicing something together might be a fun project, but no doubt it wouldn't work nearly as well.

  • Electric Wheelchair Batteries: Selecting the Right Battery

If you are in the market for new electric wheelchair batteries, understanding how your choice will affect your wheelchair will assist you in buying the right battery for your wheelchair. Selecting the wrong type of battery can result in you running out of power, or not being able to navigate challenging terrain. Look at the characteristics of each type of battery, compare to the kind of use your wheelchair gets, and then choose the best one for you.

Let’s start with a short overview of two of the main types of electric wheelchair batteries and how they work. Both are “deep cycle” batteries: they are meant to be almost fully depleted with each discharge cycle, which will use up nearly all of the battery’s capacity. This is a different process than the typical car battery which is known as a “starter” battery, meant to only provide large bursts of energy over a short period of time.
