My little 5 yr old Lhasa Apso mix was diagnosed as having a hereditary slipped disc problem in his back and someone told me that there is such a thing as a wheelchair for pets. Has anyone ever used one of these for their pet? Are they easy to use and comfortable for the pet? How well do they work and can they be rented or are they only custom-made? How much do they cost? My dog is about 20 pounds.
Any feedback or answers would be appreciated.
Yes, they do make wheelchairs for pets..they are usually custom made..see the website below. I have known many dogs that use these and are able to get around just fine.

I am not pregnant, but I would like some opinions on this. I have a boyfriend and he is in a wheelchair. When the time comes and we have a baby, how should we do the crib situation? Would it benefit us to get a crib designed to be used by him, or is a bassinet an option, or maybe a mattress on the floor.
Due to the recent recalls I am worried, I would rather not even use a crib.
Thanks for any information!
(Add.info.- We have been together 5 years so this isnt just a spur of the moment thought. its an almost constant one.. have caught baby fever Lol.)
I asked this 2 days ago and I am hoping to get more answers this time. The last girl suggested www.disabledparents.com because they made a custom crib. I already read it and considered it.
I bought a crib & bassinet & both were nearly a total waste of money. My son hated his bassinet so he slept in his swing, then he moved to his bouncy chair & around 6 months he began sleeping in bed w/ me. Most recently I have moved his crib up against my bed but he still sleeps w/ me! If I had to do over, I would've just bought a pack n pay that has a bassinet & changing table in it. I think that would save you a lot of money, pack n plays are great to have when baby starts crawling, the baby can sleep in there at all different ages & the changing table & bassinet might be just at the right height level for your boyfriend. With all the money you'd be saving from not having to buy a crib, bassinet, changing table & play pen, you could get an awesome one w/ all the bells & whistles & have a lot of $ left over for real baby necessities.
Alright, so, my angelic mother has 2 friends at college, 1 has CP and is in a wheelchair (as is my mother) and 1 is a really large football player who is just the sweetest guy EVER! Anyway, tomorrow they have an event where they're all supposed to be Superheroes. ... More than 3 weeks ago, mom bought ALLL the materials for the capes, in order to surprise her friends. Unfortunately, she runs 2 clubs and a charity drive in addition to classes... so she has had zero time and is now upset with the idea that the capes will not be made.
I want to make them for her. I make custom UFO catcher Plush dolls, and I have some limited sewing experience in that! I have:
Yards of the fabric she choose.
Ribbon.
Scissors.
Thread to match
Sewing Machine
Measuring tape
Elastic (not much, though).
I do not have:
Their measurements.
I just know the capes have to be limited in size enough that they will not drag on the ground, or get caught in the wheelchair tires.
3 capes total.
Anyone have any instructions or aid? Please, please, please! They don't have to be fancy! The fabric is BEAUTIFUL! It's a silky shimmery turquoise, a gold, and a lavender.
I have considered robbing batman, but I live in Arizona, not Gothem :(
I know this is a challenge, but the benefits will be astronomical! These 3 REALLY deserve the capes.
This is how I made a cape one year. I just took a yard of fabric. Then I had a piece of cardboard. About 3 in. high, and 3 ft. wide. I folded the cardboard in 3 places, so it would cover both sides of my neck and the back of it. Then I just wrapped the the fabric over the cardboard to make it the collar of the cape, and this way it would stand up. I just used tape to hold it there. You can wrap it as many times you need to make it the right length. You can tape the ribbon on the inside of the cardboard before you wrap the the fabric around it. This way they can tie it around them in the front. It is fast and easy. Hope this will help you out. I would love to see your UFO dolls. If you have a web site send it to me so i can see them.

First Water and Solar Powered Wheelchair Lift Launched | Able Magazine
A wheelchair lift powered by water and solar power has been launched as part of the London Festival of Architecture.
Wheelchair user Karl Woods, 19, from Bermondsey – an ambassador for youth mobility charity Whizz-Kidz – helped unveil the new lift, at the historic Duke of York Steps in London.
The lift, created by Matthew Lloyd Architects, has been designed to raise public awareness around access and sustainability – firmly placing the key issues of inclusive design and equal access under the spotlight.
Karl said: “I think this is a great idea, as it lets disabled people become as independent as possible – and it’s a good idea to try and make more parts of London accessible; especially as in 2012 it hosts the Paralympic Games.
