Cushion Wheelchair

I've had a Permobil C500 wheelchair with the corpus seating for the past two years. For several months now I have been getting pain in my tailbone. I have some people recommend either a Roho cushion or Jay cushion. Both are expensive and to my surprise both companies offer about 20 different cushions. I'd like to hear the opinion of some end users.

As a C2-C3 quadriplegic I use a ROHO High Profile, my chair is an Invacare TDX5. I have tried the Jay type cushion but had a few skin problems, but since I switched to the ROHO, I have had no problems at all. Hope this helps.

I saw a plaid covered wheelchair cushion in a magazine and of course I have lost the magazine! It was red plaid with arm cushion. Does anyone know where I might find one of these?

The first link below has a full pad with seat and arms in plaid. That may be what you want and it is a $10 buy it now on Ebay!! If not, there are two more links for just the cushion with removable cover.

We need to cat-proof it. We have several cats, all of which have their claws.
Just to clarify, I have surfed the net and found several productions. However, none of them specify that they can stand up to cat claws. I am looking for reccomendations from people that have experience with this.

I've worked with Rohos and chairs for 15 years. A 'cat-proof' cover would be so thick and tough that it would counteract the purpose of the cushion.

The cheapest option would probably be to switch to a less vulnerable cushion. Stimulites (http://www.sportaid.com/catalog/page48a. shtml) or Vicairs (http://www.medifixservices.ie/medifix/ma in/2006-SS-Vicair-Vector.htm) can accomplish most of the benefits of Rohos, and in many situations, offer better support.

(Note- I REALLY like properly set-up Vicairs.)

This one is too hard and it makes me ache from my knees to the middle of my back!

Get Roho. They are a tad expensive, but oh my, it is so wonderful. It is full of air and eliminates pressure sores (which is a problem with people who have to sit all day) and it is much more comfortable and doesn't make your back as sore. I am a paraplegic, paralyzed from the waist down, due to a drunk driver hitting me when I was three (I am now a teen). I just ordered a new wheelchair with a this new seat and it is so amazing. You should really consider it.
