We are told by the signs on the elevator that we can't use them in case of a fire. We then use the stairs to move, but there are those who are confined to wheelchairs and can't use the stairs.
When I was an RA, we had a list of rooms that needed assistance out of the building in emergencies. A lot of housing complexes will maintain something similar, and sometimes you'll see stickers on their doors.
If its in a public area, you'd hope to god that people are mindful of others and assist them.
If they're still available, rescuers can key into elevators to use them in evacuating those who need assistance.
. Before this oil spill, I had no white lesions in my brain. Not, now I'm confined to a wheelchair, I'm, my, my daily life has been pretty ...
Or is it unavoidable no matter what they do?
they have to get out every day at some point - bathroom (if they aren't bagged) or bathing, and to sleep - I think that amount of movement helps keep these types of sores to a minimun I'd imagine.
and if there was a motorcycle like this, could they park it at a handicapped parking place at Wal Mart?
I built one for a guy in houston 25 yrs ago it was more of a stde car platform with the steering controls moved over to it he just pulled his chair up on it locked it dowm then controlled it from there
But I dont know if you can just buy one-Sorry
Just wondering.
It really depends on why the person is in a wheelchair. If it is a spinal cord injury, then the level of the injury will affect what movements are available. For example, if the injury was in the lower back area, then the affected body parts would be the base of the spine & the legs, leaving the person with (most likely) good balance & the ability to do many activities from weight lifting, to wheelchair sports like basketball, handball, etc to kayaking with adequate support to maintain position in the boat. If the injury is higher in the back (say chest level or even in the neck), then there may be balance compromises or even involvement (ie some loss of motor control) of the arms & that would affect the choices available. If the person suffers from a muscular disorder that affects strength, then muscle weakness & control would be the limiting factors.
The best idea is to speak to the person & find out what they can, and want, to accomplish. Just like an able body person, just because someone could play basketball, doesn't mean they want to ;o).
want to lose weigh in my lower legs ,thighs and butt area ,but how do i achieve this if i'm confined to a wheelchair and can't bend my knees ?
If you are parylezed from the legs down. I mean there are probably ways. You could build your upper body, and crunches. But with your legs. I can say maybe for your legs. There are probably ways you can suspend your legs. But ask the doctor maybe for some advice.
