Not sure if this can be answered. How to get wheelchair bound patients on to a bus with no lift?

An exhibit bus is coming through town but has no lift. How would you get wheelchair patients up onto it to see the exhibit? It is a very old bus. Could car ramps be used through the back emergency exit? Please no jokes. This is for nursing home patients.

The fastest approach is to have a very strong person lift the wheelchairs and carry them onto the bus. Make sure that the person is careful not to drop the occupied wheelchairs.

A better approach is to construct a temporary ramp with plywood.

Still another approach is either
a) rent a U-Haul, Ryder, etc., truck with its deck at the same height as the bus emergency exit, push the wheelchairs up the ramp of the truck, and park the vehicles back-to-back, so that you can roll the wheelchairs from one vehicle to the other
b) get a bus with a lift, park the buses so that their emergency exits align, bring the wheelchairs onto the bus with the lift, and then roll them out one emergency exit and into the other.

How come white people get mad when they see a wheelchair getting on the bus?

Today as soon as i deploy the lift, they started complaining, just like that. Dont they realize that they can be in that wheelchair someday?

because it takes time. but i think it is good that buses accommodate people with disabilities. It's got to be very hard to be a person in that sitiuation.

i tried to get a wheelchair user onto a bus today. why was it so difficult?

first and second bus, the ramp would not deport. third one held a woman who would not fold her buggy down even though it held only shopping!!!!! she did have the toddler in her arms but surely the bus driver should have shown authority and made room for the wheelchair. shouldnt he?

By law.... yes they are supposed too, if next time you take public transport, something like that happens again, try to get the drivers name and the registration number of the bus he/she was driving......and also the time and date, then report them, because what they did was descrimination.....no more no less

The woman that refused to move her pram was just flat out rude and should have been removed from the bus altogether, im sorry that things were so difficult for you....i hope that people act a little more appropriately next time.....

  • Cwmbran woman's anger at bus wheelchair 'discrimination'

A CWMBRAN wheelchair-user who was told she must travel backwards on buses for health and safety reasons, says she feels discriminated against because of her disability.

Gweneth Little, 57, of St Dials, says she has travelled sideways in her wheelchair on Stagecoach buses without any problems for five years.

But on Monday she claims a driver on the 151 route from Newport to Crosskeys told her she had to position her wheelchair to face the back of the bus, to prevent the chair from shooting forward in the event of an emergency break.

Mrs Little, who has used a wheelchair for the past five years due to spinal problems caused by having Polio as a child, explained that she gets travel sick when travelling backwards and claims the driver responded by saying if that was the case she shouldn’t travel on buses at all.
