Hello, I am having a major operation on my leg that will put me in a wheelchair for 3 months. Without the wheelchair, I currently consume 1800 calories a day, but I burn 300 everyday on a wheelchair, so I guess 1500. Since I won't be able to burn those calories on the treadmill, how much should I lower my intake? I don't want to lower it too much where my body goes in starvation mode where I store all fat and gain more weight when I eat normally again. I am a female, 18. Thanks =)
You probably can go as low as 1200, but a lot depends on how much activity you're involved in. 1500 sounds like a pretty safe bet. I've found that avoiding refined carbs and sticking with the more natural ones found in raw fruits, vegetables, nuts, and whole grains gives you more energy with less fat storage. That might be a consideration.
