I have a wheelchair built to accommodate a 400-lb user, and I would like to give it to someone who could use it. I don't want to give it to someone who will sell it for a profit, and this is why Craigslist is not an option. I'm having trouble locating an organization that will take it. Any suggestions?
I am in the Columbus, Ohio area.
Independant Living Center... the one closest to you is:

I am CERTAIN that they would very much appreciate the chair... and if for some outlandish reason they don't need it... they can give you ideas on who would best benefit from your Wonderful Donation
The Hospital Equipment Committee for the San Diego Scottish Rite will put your used wheelchair, scooter, hospital bed or walker to good use free ...
These were really expensive and I can't get a refund. I'd be happy to sell them for a small amount or donate them to someone who really needs them. I hate to just throw these out and it doesn't look like it makes sense to list them on ebay. These are for an Omega Track made by Teftec. I'm sure there's someone out there who could use them.
I would donate them to the local Easter Seals charity in my area. They loan durable medical equipment to people who can't afford it. So they get these equipment donations from people, but they need parts for the equipment to repair some of them also. It really is a worthwhile charity!
We have a raises toilet seat for someone with a wheelchair, a bath seat, canes, a new walker, etc.
try looking in your phone book for a local Hospice. I don't think nursing homes would take them, but I used to work for a Hospice and we loved getting donations. We used them with families who could not afford them.
I collected these little buggers because I heard a rumour that if you collect a million tabs, Alcan will donate a wheelchair to a chairty of your choice. I recently found out that wasn't true :( Can you tell me where to sell them in Toronto, Canada so I can use the money towards the purchase of a wheelchair. Thank you.
Actually, the charitable donation thing IS true. Perhaps not with Alcan, but there are many other organizations that will donate wheelchairs or other items to disabled or ill people. Check out www.pulltabsforcharity.org. My dad's company (in BC) collected these a few years ago and donated them through that website.
Elderly mother has accidentally frayed the wires leading to the VSI controller on her electric wheelchair (Jazzy ATF) and I am looking for that vsi controller joystick. Would prefer to get one used but also would like to find a place that sells new ones....need one in good working condition. OR would like to find someone who can fix it at a reasonable cost. OR someone who donates electric wheelchairs.
Try e-bay or craigslist.
