All wheelchair ramps have a vertical rise of 1 foot accompanied by a horizontal run of 14 feet. What is the grade in percent of the grade (round to the nearest tenth) of the ramp.
no, grade percent = 100* rise/run
the rise is 1 foot
the run is 14 feet
grade percent = 100 * 1/14 = 7.1%

She chases the dog and sometimes takes a corner too sharp which, of course, results in her tipping over. Problem being...she keeps trying to chase the dog with her wheelchair but just spins in circles on a vertical axis.
She was like this for a day and a half once, just giggling and spinning. I finally couldn't stand the stench of bodily waste anymore (and did not appreciate it being flicked around the room from her spinning), so I helped her.
Should I help her next time? What can I do to prevent this from happening at all?
Talk to her. Be nice to her. Tell her its ok to chase the dog but she needs more practice with manoevering the wheel chair, if she needs to master it. Encourage her to do it better. It is also possible that she is doing this only for some extra attention. Give it to her but dont overdo it. When she is at peace that she is receiving from you what she needs, she may show you enough consideration and not make you clean up mess.
A wheelchair ramp is 9.6m long. It spans a horizontal distance of 9.5m. What is the vertical height?
And also could you tell me how you solved that problem too?
Thanks =]
this would need the pythagorean theorem a^2 + b^2 = c^2
9.6^2 - 9.5^2 = vertical height
that is 1.91
you take the square root of that
that comes out to be about 1.4 (rounded)
I have a question that says What guidelines would you use 2 design a ramp to improve wheelchair access to a building entrance that is 18 in above ground level. Realize that reulations say the ramp must be at least 1ft long for every inch of height.
I know that the vertical leg is 18in but I don't know if the hypotnuse is 18 ft or if the base is.
also, i tried to answer it using both but i dont understand how to do it, could you explain?
I know a^2+b^2=c^2
It's the ramp that must be at least 18 feet long. This is the part the handicapped people are going to be riding on. So that would be the hypotenuse. If "b" is the distance between the edge of the entrance and the tip of the ramp, then converting the 18" to 1.5 feet, we have (18/12)^2 + b^2 = (18)^2. Solve this for b to find out how much room to clear away for making the ramp.
I recently had surgery on my spine 2 months ago to remove a cyst on my "nerve root." I've been doing what I can when it comes to P.T. at home but I actually feel WORSE! The pain (cramping really) is in my butt cheek and not my spine. I'm still having to use a walker and sometimes around my apartment, a wheelchair! Do you think that this cramping (it was this way before I had the surgery, actually) is transient or that I do indeed need MORE P.T.? I almost forgot...I also had a hip replacement on the a** side that hurts with the cramping...maybe this has something to do with it as well??? This is just excruciating pain and in the a.m. I just stay in bed for a couple hours until I can "psych" myself into having my butt not hurting, but it's always the same routine. It DOES get somewhat better during the day but if I sit for a bit and then get up it comes back with a vengence. It only hurts if I'm vertical but it also hurts when I don't bear weight on it!
if I'm upright. Help!
Injuries/insults to nervous tissue take quite some time to heal. I would hope that your surgeon explained this to you. As it heals, you will get pain where you may not have had it before.
I myself had some spinal surgery last year and things are just now getting back to normal.
Continue with your PT regime and work on pain management with your doctor. Be patient, it sucks, but thats all you can do or you will go nuts.
Is A Vertical Wheelchair Lift The Best Choice For You?
Is A Vertical Wheelchair Lift The Best Choice For You?
Presently there happen to be several different types of wheelchair lifts out there, such as the vertical wheelchair lift . Picking wheelchair lifts is going to commonly depend on what a person’s unique needs tend to be. Therefore just how do you choose one? Let us determine how.
Essentially, wheelchair lifts are mechanised devices that help disabled people overcome limitations for using stairways or steps. It’s a electric apparatus built to boost a wheelchair together with a user in order to get to the next height, whether it’s a step or a motor vehicle. The lift is frequently run by means of electricity or hydraulics. Vertical platforms in many cases are evident in homes. They are also referred to as home elevators and are custom-made. These types of lifts tend to be situated by the stairways yet aren’t connected to it. So if you are at home a majority of the time and need to get to your second floor frequently, then vertical wheelchair lifts would be your best option. They would be also suitable should you wish your lift to be custom-made.
