I am very much involved within the special education community. One of my friends had a question for me, and I thought I'd present it here for a broader answer. His daughter wanted to ask someone using a wheelchair to dance, but wasn't sure how that works...I've heard of holding hands and just kinda swaying. I've also seen young men who use a wheelchair have the lady sit in his lap...anybody have any other expierences with this? Ideas? Female and male perspectives both appriciated here...
probaly holding hands and the mobile person moving their feet while the in-mobile person moving the chair! Or like both moving their hands .
Wheelchair dance competition in Europe.
I would like to learn how to dance but I use a wheelchair and have very weak arms and legs. I cannot stand or walk at all. What should I do? Use a high chair with wheels? Find a coach?
You didn't say if you are male or female, but if you are female, have your man pick you up and dance with you while holding on to you. I work at a handi-capable camp and one of our counselors did this . The young woman had been in a wheelchair her entire life and had CP so her arm were weak as well. She cried out of sheer joy because she had never danced before....very memorable and moving
Hi ,
I'm a single 31 year old guy who has Spina Bifida and I'm confined to a wheelchair. When I go out, I run into some difficult situations. First, I meet a girl who seems interesting and she wants me to drink which I'm not very comfortable with.
Furthermore, since the places I go to are dance clubs the subject of dancing also comes up. I don't know how a wheelchair person can dance. These problems I've been having seem to keep me from establishing a connection with girls I meet. They seem to lose interest within a very short time and go elsewhere. It's very discouraging.
If someone could give me some advice I'd really appreciate it.
Thanks
First of all, you need to meet a woman somewhere that YOU are comfortable with, a place you have the most fun and capabilities. If you are Christian, I say church, other places-book store, supermarket, anywhere that women will be doing normal daily things. If you aren't comfortable with drinking, I would quit with the club scene. I know that when I go to the club I like to drink, most girls do. And they also don't like doing it alone, because if the man is sober and the girl is toasted...how would you both feel the next morning?
you know how there are all different types of dance Competition shows...well wouldn't it be cool if there was one about people in wheelchairs that dance? it's really cool to watch all the neat tricks you can do in a wheelchair and some of the dancing can be very beautiful just like regular dancing.
That would be an awesome show!
An Irishman in a wheelchair rolls into a bar and asks the waitress for a cup of coffee. He then looks over at the bar and asks the waitress, "Is that Jesus?" The waitress says that it is, so the Irishman says, "Give him a cup of coffee... I'll pay."
A few minutes later, an Englishman with a humped back walks in and asks the waitress for a cup of tea. He then asks the waitress, "Hey... is that Jesus over there?" The waitress nods and so the Englishman says, "Give 'im a cup of tea... on me."
A few minutes later, a Redneck walks in on a pair of crutches. He says, "Hey, sweet thang... how's 'bout an ice-cold coke. Holy smokes... is that Jesus?" The waitress says, "Sure is." So, the Redneck says, "Give the ol' boy a coke... put it on my tab."
Later, Jesus gets up to leave, walks over to the Irishman, touches him and says, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Irishman gets up out of his wheelchair and dances a jig out of the door.
Jesus walks over to the Englishman, touches him and says, "For your kindness, you are healed." The Englishman stretches out his back and does backflips out the door.
Jesus walks over to the Redneck. Then, the Redneck gets up, backs away, and says, "Stay away from me... I'm drawin' disability!"
that was hilarious!!!
High school graduation dance in June, should go? | Manual Wheelchair
My parents probably want me too, and I don’t really want to miss out on the meory it’s just i have many reasons why it would be a bad time for me.
My mild cerebral palsy makes me feel incredibly awkward and I don’t have rhythm. I’ve never danced before, except at one wedding reception when I as around 8 i think. and it’ll probably be Pop and R &B music which i don’t listen to usually so the music is unusual too.
I use a walker at school, but that would basically separate me from everyone when they space themselves out and I have a strong dislike from it making me stand out already. I have a wheelchair we "burrowed" from my grandmother’s nursing home years ago, but I hardly use it juat on really long day trips. And I don’t know anything about wheelchair dancing, can’t really practise it, and it has the same separation issue. Plus it’s manual, so my arms would get tired. I’d be too embarrassed to be pushed around.
