I am disabled and currently unemployed and on benefits, AND I HATE BEING ON BENEFITS, noose aroiund the neck, holds me back, and i really want to get off them. so im looking into getting a job, the problem with me is im not your typical wheelchair user happy to live out the rest of my days sitting behind a desk in a nice office wearing a shirt and tie, working just for the money. or settling for anything i can get. like tesco's checkout.
i want what i see as more than that, although moneywise it probably wont be,
what im looking for is a job building, repairing, modifying, refurbishing, and last but not least PIMPIN!!! wheelchairs and other disability related products, like crutches, vehicle hand controls, and sports and 'recreational' wheelchairs etc.
The trouble is i can find next to no information about how to get into this kind of work, or any training i would need, or even where i can do this kind of work, another idea i had for work was the NHS, my local hospital would be ideal, i'd like to combine the two, but im not even sure they have this kind of thing at hospitals.
so would anyone know where i can find out more? how would i go about getting into it?
ive sent off a couple of emails to related businesses, but received no reply from one and the other (which was in canada) wasnt really helpful,
i really want to do this, i see it as a good compromise between office work and your average every day mechanics garage jobs, which i dont think i can do. but would i fi could. some of the things you can do with wheelchairs and related products these days is amazing and i really want to play a part in the future of it (hover chairs anyone) and feel that it is a worthwhile business to get into, and relatively secure, there will always be a need for these products, i know i'll always need a wheelchair.
i'd rather work in a workshop getting my hands dirty doing that than work in an office like wheelchair users are expected to do any day.
so any help anyone can give me would be much appreciated.
also please refrain from the usual unfunny immature picking on the disabled comments, ive heard it all before and will only ignore them anyway, you'd be wasting time :)
as a disabled terminally ill boys grandad i would give bad answers a thumbs down and get a violation to them now i think the best way to tackle this is to get your phonebookand try phonig up all mobility centers you can find and ask them if they could helpif not in your town other mobility centers all over until you get some advice even contact wheelchair makers also oryou could email the disabled charities thats all i can say
How to repair and sanitize a manual wheelchair
And where can I find it to see it again?
Here's what happens: They have a bake sale to raise money for a wheelchair accessible school bus for Archie. Sue ends up donating the money b/c it turns out she has a sister with Down Syndrome; this is also the reason she replaces Quinn with a girl with down syndrome. Puck seduces Rachel because they're both "hot Jews" and the wedding is still on b/t the counselor and the coach, which confuses me b/c I thought the wedding was off...as per episode 13. Also, Puck raises a ton of money for the bake sale by spiking the cup cakes and tries to give the money to Quinn for their baby b/c Finn can't get a job to help out, which also baffles me b/c in episode 13 Finn finds out the baby isn't his! Then Finn ends up finding a job as a wheelchair repair guy (or something) but has to pretend to be handicap.
Oh, and also, Sue is in a super great mood in the beginning because she's getting some ass from a guy from the news station. And then she begins training for a swing dance competition with him and has a zoot suit made for herself and then finds out the guy is also sleeping w/ the co-anchor and goes back to being a bitch.
And Rachel and Kurt have a sing-off for a part, but Kurt throws it b/c his dad is getting harassing phone calls due to Kurt's sexuality.
And Archie and the Asian girl make out, but then he brakes up w/ her because she admits she's not really a stutterer...she made it up years before as a coping mechanism.
I'm confused!!! What happened? How did the Emma's wedding go from off in last episode to back on in this one? How did Finn go from being PISSED OFF at Quinn in last episode to being bossed around by her and trying to help her out in this one??? SOMEBODY ELSE OUT THERE HAS TO HAVE SEEN THIS EPISODE!
If you are watching them on FOX for the past couple of weeks they have been doing random episodes...none of them are really coherant and are not in order....so you gotta watch them in order. I think www.hulu.com has all the GLEE episodes. You can watch them there. But FOX has been randomizing them.

All my woodwork and cabinets are stained and have taken a beating from my sons wheelchair. Is there an easy way to touch up all the scratches? I have left over stain from the builder, and tried to cover a place with it but it didn't to seem to work.
I've used a product from the gift store at Cracker Barrel, which works wonders!
It's called "Old Craftsman's Brand Lemon Oil with Bees Wax"
Here's what it looks like:

This does a great job on any type of furniture.

we have been without airconditioning for almost 5 days now, want to know what the landlords responsibility is to get this done.we rent not buying.daughter has spina bifida and hydrocefelus.wheelchair bound.
In most states the landlord is not required to provide AC. It is usually personal property of the landlord, like the refrigerator. You did not mention your location, so it is hard to determine if the landlord needs to do anything at all.
A window type AC unit costs about 200 at Home Depot. There are also portable ones for about 300.
I own a 2000 Chevy Astro van with an after-market wheelchair lift installed behind the sliding door. The door is *just* wide enough to accommodate the lift.
A few months back, my son didn't open the sliding door far enough. When the ramp came down, it hit the door, and the assembly that holds the door in the track at the top was damaged. I can still close the door, but I have to hold it in a specific position or it slips out of the track (in either direction). Also, the door can no longer be closed from the inside.
I tried to bring it to a body shop, but they refused to touch it because, apparently, there are some challenges as far as repairing such a door and getting it exactly back to "like new" condition.
I'm not so much worried about it being "like new" ... the van is nine years old, after all. I just want the door to stay on track so that the rest of the door assembly doesn't break.
Any idea what is involved in such a repair, and how much it might cost? Also, is there something I might be able to do myself as a short-term repair?
Have you thought about getting the part out of a junkyard and replacing it yourself? That should be a lot cheaper. Also, I would try another body shop. There is nothing unusual about having a van with a damaged door and a decent shop should have fixed dozens.

The Leveraged Freedom Chair.
In step with last week’s post about low cost wheelchairs, here is another ingenious mobility invention:
The genius of Winter’s wheelchair lies in the design of the long ratchet-like levers that power it. Hold them low, near the axle, and it goes fast. Hold them higher up, and it generates a lot of torque, making it possible to climb slowly but surely over rocks and up hills. In effect, you change gears by changing your body geometry…
Lever-powered wheelchairs have been around for more than 50 years, and a few companies market them now. But those often are very expensive – up to several thousand dollars – and use derailleurs or other gearing that is often ill-suited to tough conditions…
