Wheel Chair Walker

My aunt is 71, home bound and uses a walker. She does not want a Great Dane in the house. She thinks it will knock her down or stand in her way and not move. Is this a valid concern?

She is a large woman and it would be a puppy we are getting. There is three other adults in the house that will actually be responsible for the puppy.

No, Great Danes, especially the older ones are very intuned to the needs of others. They are in fact as gentle and caring as they seem, despite their size. They are also easily trained to stay in certain areas of the home which are safe for playing, and should be taught to respect your aunt and give her space. If the great dane is very young, it might be best to slowly train the dane to be gentle with your aunt. My family has 2 great danes now and we have had 2 that passed away in the past few years. They have always been very careful indoors with baby kittens, our tiny chihuahua, our older relatives, as well as with other animals who were injured at the time. Great danes do seem to have a special intuition about taking care of others. But, please don't restrict your dane to the outdoors as the heat, rain, and storms are especially bad this year. And as you may know, Great Danes can be easily frightened by bad weather. Also, designating a space for your dane will make the dane feel safe and secure in your home when you have a new person coming to stay with you. Just make sure that you or someone else supervises when your dane and aunt are together.

I don't mind making extra room or stepping aside for wheel chairs. Or even people with sleeping infants in their stroller. But it seems anyone with a stroller pushes their way through a crowd as if they are entitled to the same consideration you'd give an old lady with a walker.
I won't give any thumbs down: i want to konw what people think.

I'm talking mostly about the crowded aisle in a store where it's so hard to pass.
When I am in a store-WalMart for instance- and the aisle is crowded, I step away from what I was looking at and let older people pass. But almost EVERYONE has a stroller in WM and if you do it for one person, you have to do it for another.... After a while I feel like I need to just moving out of everyone's way or I'll never get my own shopping done.

I generally move aside as a courtesy to polite moms with strollers. But if they're running me over or bumping my ankles, i get kind of peeved!!! There are polite moms with strollers, and there are polite old ladies with walkers. There are also RUDE moms with strollers, as well as RUDE old ladies with walkers! lol.

Edit: I completely agree with Angela. People rant and rave on Yahoo Answers about unruly kids running all over the place. So the parents strap them in strollers so they'll be out of people's way, then people complain about the strollers! Basically, no matter what you do, you're never going to please everyone. :)

I work in a nursing home that is state funded so we get all this equipment furnished but I am sure that elderly people that fall through the cracks of medicare and medicaid could use some things that others no longer have need of. Lots of agencies do it with baby items is there anyone doing it for the other end of life's spectrum? I live in Jackson , MS nationally is good but locally is better.Thanks.

Contact your local United Way agency. They work with community organizations and can direct you to NUMEROUS places that will be more than happy to give them to those who need it.

I'm living in a doulbe wide mobile home a wheel chair ,walker won't go thru the doors..agin we've been doing the best we can for almost 3 years..lawyers and workmans comp..don't care..I don't realy want to loose the little 2 aceres of dirt I'm on..but ya'll I can't do this alone any more I need some help idea..somebody get MAD with me..polly

have you talked to a real estate agent about selling the home you're in and helping you find another? That might be an option. If you are disabled, the state may be able to help, you probably need to call medicaid or medicare if you have either of those.
