I like to hear the Advantages or Disadvantages of Baby Walkers based on your own experience (not what you read in books or internet). Like, did it hinder your baby's ability to walk? And also how old your babies were when they used it (if they did at all).
Thanks.
My daughter is 10 months, and has been using one for a few months. I asked a question yesterday about why they are supposedly so dangerous, and thought the answers were silly. If a parent leaves a child unattended in any way near the top of a staircase, there's a chance baby could fall down them - that's not because of the walker, that's lack of supervision. Anyway, my daughter doesn't crawl, only bum-scoot and it was taking her ages to get anywhere and she was becoming really frustrated and grumpy. In her walker, she can follow me around whilst I do jobs and loves being independent (and chasing the dog!) and she can stand for a few seconds unaided, which I don't think is particularly behind for her age. besides it's not like a baby is never going to walk for real if they use a walker, where's the rush? As long as they get plenty of practice with standing/coasting, I don't see what harm a walker's going to do.

I have showers coming very soon and wanted to know whether I should request a walker or an exersaucer for my baby. I don't have any stairs in my house so I don't have to worry about that.
Ummm,... when I say "request" I mean for my gift registry, which is what a gift registry is for!
There is some concern that walkers, exersaucers, and jumpers can delay walking or cause developmental problems such as tip-toe walking. However generally that is when they are overused.
As you really shouldn't leave a baby for very long in any of these probably one is sufficient. Now I live in Canada where walkers are illegal but from what I have seen on baby sites walkers tend to be smaller than exersaucers but exersaucers have more toys to keep the baby amused. Also with an exersauces you don't have to worry about the baby bumping into things and getting close to dangerous things they stay where you put them. Of course walkers can be a lot of fun for baby, but my son was in one once and they can get up a lot of speed, enough to bruise your shin or knock something over/off a shelf.
I do recommend that you get a walker/exersaucer where the height is adjustable. I got a lot more use out of mine because I could make it taller. My son got tall really quickly and would have outgrown other saucers.
I think exersaucers and jumpers can be used earlier than walkers as well. But I could be wrong. Jumpers are a lot of fun and most of them fold very small (there are some with trays and toys that are large).
I think in most people's space a walker and an exersaucer is probably just too much. Babies take up a surprising amount of space as it is.
I imported a baby walker from the Untied States before they were banned.. If I put my child in it and childrens aid or cps comes to my door for some unknown reason can they take my children from me.. I don't have stairs so that isn't a concern and I do not abuse my children; so there is no reason for them to come..
I am living in Canada they have been banned here..
They are illegal in Canada...but with no stairs you shouldbe ok. The reason they were banned was because of children falling down stairs. Just keep an eye on baby

I want to start my almost 9 month of twins, using infant walker. Granted, they try to stand up using tables and couches. I want to buy them infant walker, but my husband disagrees. He says they wouldn't learn how to walk in a walker. He thinks that it will only teach them to walk on their tip-toes not foot. My stairs and basement is blocked with gates. What do you think???
I used a walker with both of my children. My daughter loved it because it helped her to be able to move all around. She did end up walking at an early age. She was walking by the time she was 11 months old and running by the time she was a year old. She does not walk on her tippie toes except when she dances and she is not bowed legged either.
My son on the other hand really didn't like the walker that much when he got older. I stopped putting him in it because he likes crawling instead. He is now 11 months old and is walking holding on. He just realized that he can stand without holding on so I am sure he will be walking soon.
I used the walker at an early age with my children. I started putting them in it when they were around 5 months old because they loved to stand.
I found one at Buy Buy Baby that I thought was really nice. The link is below.

It comes in black, green, and pink. It is a jumper, walker, and a push walker all in one. It also has rubber on the bottom so if it did happen to go over the ledge of the steps it stops them immediately to help preven falls. If I didn't already have one I would have purchased this one.
This is the one I purchased 3 years ago.

The wheels on both of these make it easier for them to move around even on carpet. That is why I went with the one above.
Injuries, near death experiences, etc.
for me it was when my son fell down the stairs IN his walker, even though we had a baby gate at the top of the stairs... took my eye off him for a second and he knocked through the thing.
My son fell down the stairs too . He was 8 mos and had just started crawling and I guess I didnt pay enough attention. He rolled down about 18 steps.. At least they were carpeted.. He was fine though. Also my daughter was about 11 mos and taking her bath in our tub and I turned around to yell something at my husband and when I turned around to her ( like 5 sec. later) she had fallen face first under water. I never even heard a splash. She was fine too, little scared. But no real near death experiences ( knock on wood)

Baby Toys Question – Would you let your baby use this walker? I ...
And bashing their faces in if they trip over or on these things. I don’t like the idea of this thing… I don’t ever plan on using it indooors but maybe I can warm up to the idea of him using it outside when he is a lot older. What do you think about this?
Best Answer: I have the playskool version that is green and not actually an animal, but it’s the same principal and style. We also have one of the old style fisher price ones that is an easel. We got the walker for my daughter when she was 9 months old, but she never really used it until recently(13 months now), and still doesn’t use it in the house very often. The walkers you read about that are most responsible for falls down the stairs are actually the other kind, that baby sits in, instead of on. But she does love to play with it, even when not walking. We took it outside recently during some gorgeous days and my daughter walked all by herself for about a mile. I was more wore out than she was from chasing her around with it, lol. These are actually the better walkers because they turn into a ride on, every toddlers favorite toy. So double the use. As well as they teach baby to walk properly without much support, so they learn balance a lot sooner, versus the ones that baby sits in, which ideally should not be used after baby is crawling. It’s a good toy, as long as you keep it on ground level, the only problem you’ll really have is that your son will be so excited to be going on his own that he’ll push it faster than he can go and come down on his knees a lot, lol. But when they’re this age, lol, they do that a lot, the other day my daughter learned she could look up and walked chin first into a few walls, hehe, I was rolling(she wasn’t hurt, cept maybe her pride, lol) By the time your son is walking, you’ll have relaxed quite a bit about what toys you allow him to play with. I was the same way and didn’t allow any large loud musical toys or walkers or any of it, but by the time her b-day(2wks before xmas) and xmas itself, she now has the sing n play stage from fisher price(awesome toy by the way, wish I would of bought it months sooner) the learning leap frog musical table, the amazing animals train, the fisher price ball popper(another great one to get) and matching train. I could go on, lol, but I know I’ll pretty much let her have em all now. Good luck!
