Irvings works include..."rip van winkle", and "the devil in tom walker".
Poe's works include black cat pit and the pendulum, Dupin detective stories, the cask of amontilado, the house of usher, and the tell tail heart

Why do elderly people have to keep putting tennis balls on the feet of their walkers?

Why don't the manufacturers fix these things? Obviously something must be done because every walker (zimmer frame for you UK-ers) I've ever seen has had tennis balls stuck to the feet.

I think the point all the answers are missing so far is why manufacturers don't manufacture the walkers with something that helps it glide and not scratch floors to begin with. Correct me if i'm wrong, but that IS what your main point is right? And I think the simplest of answers to that is because there are different uses for the walkers, and its main purpose is to be sturdy for people who need a sturdy walker that wont slide around. Those who prefer using tennis balls have the option to do so, however the manufacturers have the obligation of making it sturdy and safe by default, especially for slippery floors.

  • FDL Action » Obama Still Working To Undermine Reid And Kill The ...

NBC News correspondent Chuck Todd reported Tuesday morning that the Obama White House, despite public expressions of support for Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid’s decision to pursue an opt-out public insurance option, remains skeptical that Reid can come up with the votes.

The administration basically told Reid, “You’re the vote counter. But don’t come crying to us when you need that last vote,” Todd said on MSNBC.

Would Obama, only one vote shy of a huge victory, refuse to even attempt to twist the arm of that last Democratic hold out? This is a level of disdain, exhibited by the Obama administration for the public option, that boarders on insanity. The White House is telling the media that he will refuse to lift a finger to help pass his signature domestic policy goal simply because it contains a public option (which Obama continues to claim he supports). Is Obama so obsessed with killing the public option and winning the support of one Republican that he is willing to cripple his own Senate Majority Leader?
