Does anyone know where there is a FREE vector silhouette of someone with a disability?

I am looking for a vector illustration of someone in either a wheelchair or the walkers under their arms...enough that you know they have a disability. Since this is for a non-profit organization, we can't afford to buy it, even royalty free, so an image that is completly free would be AMAZING. Thank you so much!

Have a look here, you may find it: http://www.extravectors.com

Trenell Walker speaks adjusting to disability.wmv

Presenting at NTARA Seminar Southwest Medical Center Dallas, Texas

Who do you complaint to about no space for the disability when you visit doctors' office?

For example: I went to this medical building to get some lab work for my husband. He is in a wheel chair. When you go into the entrance, you have to go zig-zag through the aisle of the poles. Then there is no room to park the wheel chair as we wait. Another lady her wheelchair was wide to where she was blocking the walk-way, but she had no other place to wait, she had no choice. Another lady had a walker, she had hardly no space to get through the aisle. This office wasn't design for the disabled, they didn't take this into consideration for the handicapped.

Are there disability vehicles in San Diego Zoo?

So my left foot is injured,, and my family is planning to go to the San Diego Zoo tomorrow. I can't use crutches right now, and one of those walkers where you put one of your knees on it is also out of the question. Do they have some sort of scooters or wheelchairs in San Diego Zoo?

The San Diego Zoo does have electric scooters for rent. I went last January and wish I had rented one because I had cramps so bad that I couldn't walk! Sorry about your foot! :) hope it gets better.

I want to get a summer job but i have a physical disability.Any suggestions on what would be a good job for me

I have cerebral palsy so that means that i cant do any strainious activitys. Also I use a walker and i need to be able to move around. Tight spaces Are not good.

i would suggest that you work in a book store or library, there all you need to know is where the books are and to tell people where to find them, every now and then you could help the person find a book, talk to your manager and tell him about your problem. Use whatever abilities you have to better yourself and your environment, also never give in.

lower back problems and getting disability benefits?

I'm curious if it even cremotely possible for a person to eventually get on permanent disability and claim benefits for a lower back problem? I have been a small private business owner (roofing co.) for 23 years. I have the classic lower back problem, with a few "Extras" My back goes out in a split second from stepping off a curb, rolling out of bed, putting on my shoes. When it's healthy, I can basicallly do anything. Once it goes out, I am basically crippled for a month - 6 weeks at a time. I actually go crooked, can't roll over in bed, have to use a walker, can't even situp. This goes on for 2-3 weeks, followed by slow impovement for 2-3 weeks until I'm back on my feet, then it happens all over again.

Any way this would qualify for disability? If not then what options do I have here?

First off, being a small business owner I don't know how much history you have with any doctors, but you saying that your "back goes out" rang a huge bell with me. I said it and suffered from it for years until I found out what it actually was. And it most definetly sounds to me as if you have ruptured or herniated discs. If you have been seen by a doctor for this then, you may want to try another, because if you get an MRI, I'm sure it will show the cause of your back woes.
Answering your question, yes, you most definetly are eligible to SSDI benefits. BUT...there are many, many hoops to jump through to get it. Best case scenerio would be that you have been treated by doctors and have a medical history published that can be submitted. Or have a doctor that will give you a statement saying that you will not be able to work for at least a year. If not you can see doctors, and get diagnosed(which is very time consuming with back issues for some reason) or you can just start the process your self with the IRS and let them lead you through what needs to be done, which will be very time consuming as well, most claims take up to 3 years to be approved. I have a medical history of the same problems that you suffer from and although my application was accepted the first time, I still was rejected and refiled before I was granted my benefits. You can get a look at the application on line, ( I did all of mine on line and on the phone) www.socialsecurity.gov.
With the business that you are in, after your application is accepted, DO NOT work, people in your profession are some times watched to make sure that your claims are valid.
So, all in all, yes you are eligible, and yes you will eventually recieve the benefits with your type of medical issues, you just have to meet all of the governments needs first.
Good Luck, and get some help for that back, you don't have to go through that much pain!!!!

  • Andy Walker and Chronicle get most of story on bloggers

Tip of the hat to journalist Andy Walker who wrote the story Guardian and CBC should have written

This story in Halifax’s Chronicle Herald was in my in-box. Press gallery votes to suspend blogger

How ironic, an Island free lance journalist writes a story for a Halifax paper about an native Haligonian now Islander who started his professional journalism career as a free lance journalist for the same paper.

When the press write you up, it pays to be thick skinned and ignore little mistakes. No story is perfect. While Walker’s story is considerably more balanced and accurate than the Guardian story, it does have few problems which I humbly submitted to Walker and the Chronicle Herald minutes ago.
