I have an 18 month old mobility scooter in north London, but I am having trouble giving it away. Can anyone suggest a place, a person or an organisation that would appreciate what is an expensive piece of equipment? Thanks for your help.
You could contact your local GP Surgery as I am sure they may know someone who is desperate for a mobility scooter but cannot afford the cost. I am a Practice Manager for a GP in South London and could name you at least two people from my surgery who would jump at the chance to make their life easier and open up the outside world to them once more.

After a quick search I found two websites that offer used wheelchairs and mobility scooters:
http://www.rollstuhllift-discount.de/
http://www.hilfsmittelboerse.de/
Although the sites are in German, I am sure that if you email them, somebody will be able to answer you in English.
Also, here are some words that might be helpful if you want to search on your own:
Rollstuhl/Rollstühle - wheelchair/wheelchairs
Elektroscooter - mobility scooter
gebraucht - used/second hand
Behinderung - disability
I hope this helps a little.

Hi,
I've put on some weight in the past couple of years, whilst at college, and I get really tired and upset walking long distances. I've just started my masters course at a new college, which I has a really spread out campus. There are no shuttle buses like at my old university, and I can't handle the hills and stairs at my size. I've tried diets but they don't work and I can't stick with jsut eating crappy vegetables and celery - a girl's got to eat well! - and I'm too busy for gyms. I really want to know whether I can get a decent mobility scooter for getting me around - I don't want to miss out on classes or socialising by not being able to move about. Does anyone know how much a good scooter will cost? Can you get them second hand? Also, can you get health insurance to pay for something like this? I'd like something cool that can scoot me around quickly and not look frumpy - any advice?
You don't need to be so negative - it's not like i eat all the time, and I would just want this to travel between buildings, not all the time like in class or anything. Yeah i like food, but i'm not some kind of monster who doesnt do anything but sit around getting bigger. I can't get a bicycle because i cant ride one or balance on it, and id get even more tired riding it. Thanks to the one person who gave a useful link so far!
