Honda Develops New Personal Mobility Uni-Scooter - PSFK

Prior to a formal unveil at this years Tokyo motor show, Honda has released images of a new personal mobility device it has developed called the U3-X. Small foot pegs and and a seat unfold from the device and the rider controls direction and speed by leaning their body in the desired direction. The balance system for the U3-X was adapted from Honda’s ASIMO robot. Honda has fitted the U3-X with the worlds first omni-directional drive system (Honda Omni Traction Drive System, or HOT Drive System) that enables movement in all directions including side to side and diagonally without turning. This is an improvement over the Segway which uses traditional wheels and has a larger turning radius. The device is powered by an electric motor.
